Summary: Adds high speed USB 3.0 and SATA 6.0 to my computer. The USB 3.0 works great with external drives and the SATA 6.0 was a real speed booster for a new hard drive. Wasn't compatible with another card in my computer but after removing it this card worked fine.
Summary: I installed this on an Asus P6T Deluxe motherboard running Windows 8 Pro x64. As suggested in another review, I left my boot drive (1 TB Hitachi SATA II)attached to the motherboard SATA II connection it was already working with, installed the U3S6 card in an unused PCIe 16 slot and started the machine. Windows 8 added the necessary drivers after one "restart due to error" hiccup.
Summary: Only for certain motherboards as per the manufacturer. I have it in my first gen i7 and have a SATA III SSD connected to it and I do notice the speed increase as my motherboard only supports SATA II. The addition of two USB3 ports as well is welcomed for transferring music, video, and other large files. These are hard to locate as companies would probably prefer you buy a who new motherboard to get these features.
Summary: ...but I couldn't get more than 1 hard drive to work at a time on the card. And USB 3.0 transfer rates were slightly degraded with a hard disk drive attached. But other than that small problem it has worked great. This is a common problem with USB 3.0/SATA 6 combo cards, and I have to say it wasn't as pronounced as my friends PCIe 1x combo card. Overall I am happy with the price and performance.
Summary: I bought a new SSD - OCZ Vertex 2. However, I could not get it to function with my existing motherboards built-in SATA controller - Asus P5W64 (with Intel ICH7). I had almost given up hope until I stumbled upon this card. This card worked with my motherboard even though it it NOT on the approved motherboard list! Thank God! Here is what I did to install it: 1. Installed the Asus U3S6 controller card WITHOUT ANY connections - no SATA or USB3. 2.
Summary: Mounted in ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard on the white (secondary) PCIe x16 slot. Running in AHCI mode, I set AHCI to use an SSD before buying this card (so the computer was already ready for it). You MUST be in AHCI mode to use this card. I did this in W764 post install. That's work, but can be done, probably better to just always set AHCI preinstall anyway, considering where storage is going. Its drivers loaded no problem.
Summary: One problem thou, it uses an PCIE x4 Slot. Make sure youe have one and not an x1. there IS a difference. Compatibility. Look up the difference on the internet, x1 is more common and is smaller.
