Summary: I am very unhappy with this compactor. The screws fall out of the foot control constantly. Y ou have to step on the foot pedal to start or stop the compactor, and it is made very flimsy. I have reattached the screw so many times that now the area is stripped, I am now seeking a replacement repair and part, considering the compactor has only been installed within my house for 6 months
Summary: We got one of these for our kitchen remodel which included all GE Profile appliances. I would agree on all of the negative points listed by the other reviewers. Ours lasted 13 months. My husband bought the plastic gear and replaced it. It worked for another month and then the motor burned out, stuck halfway up so the door would not open. Our handle also discolored to a bronze/copper color and looks terrible.
Summary: Trash compactor is VERY noisy. The motor gets stuck and I have to pull the unit out of the cabinet, unplug, and then reset. This is the second time that I have had to take the unit apart (yes apart) and try to get it to work. This time no luck. I believe the motor has probably burnt out!! Great!! Also, the handle does get discolored after use and looks a bronze color instead of stainless steal.
Summary: I have to agree wholeheartedly with the first review, Steve in setauket, our compactor lasted less than 24 months and GE Service wants 512.00 to repair the item. My wife hated the compactor from the start and rarely used the thing, since the kitchen remodel was mainly for the cook, me, that wasn't that big a deal. Nothing of a wet nature ever went into the compactor, only paper goods, so I am at a loss as to why it didn't last longer than it did.
Pros: compacted great, when it worked
Cons: Low quality, Not durable, a very short, lifespan, considering the, original price!
Summary: Think buying GE PROFILE and you are getting an appliance that will last??? Think again. This compactor lasted about 13 or 14 months, so it cost me about $100/mopnth to compact my garbage. The compact mechanism is stuck in the half way position and the machine is now useless.
Summary: The main drive gear broke after 14 months of use. It was replaced (out of warranty) and the replacement broke 11 months later. I expected more from a GE appliance and paid too much for a "quality" appliance with cheap plastic parts.
Summary: After using for about two months, the handle discolored and now looks copper instead of stainless steel. After 13 months of use, it stopped working. I'm thinking it's the motor but I don't want to pay $500 for a replacement motor. I don't want to pay for a technician to look at it either. You might as well pay an additional $200-300 and get a quality trash compactor.
Summary: That all I got out of my GE compactor. It never really did a good job of compacting. About a year after buying the compactor it broke a cheap plastic gear, we had that replaced, now the motor seems to be shot. What is the point of fixing it again? I should throw it in an industrial compactor.
