Excerpt: I replaced a 12 year old model of this same trash compactor. The screw that held the foot pedal on wore through the metal hole. It got a lot of use, so no big surprise. Although I was used to it, I never liked the foot pedal, and you had to apply some pressure to depress it, so it was no wonder it finally broke. This new model allows you to pull the drawer open with the handle, or use the foot pedal. It is so much easier!
Summary: I just updated from a 14-year old GE compactor this week as part of a kitchen remodel. The new one is stainless steel and looks nicer. Unfortunately, I liked the height of the older one better. This one is taller, so it's harder to reach over it to put items in. The foot pedal is higher off the floor, which is less convenient than the old one. But you don't touch it with your hand to turn it on; you lift the foot pedal with your toe. That's cleaner when cooking.
Summary: I've owned 4 compactors. This was the most expensive and isn't any better than the others. It broke after only a few weeks but was covered by warranty and fixed within a week. This one is quiet and looks good. I've used this for 2 months.
Summary: Very happy with this compactor. The style, with the large handle, really looks sleek. The toe operation is amazing, don't know why anyone would buy a compactor without this feature. Can't say anything negative about this product.
