2 year life

Cith, Amazon
23 December 2005
  • Summary: We bought this beautiful machine after many other "cheaper ones". But within 6 months, the wand started leaking (have to leave a towel to soak up the excess water when not steaming). The temp. gauge never read the correct temp.

Great Looks - Poor Reliablitiy - Dangerous Repair

F. Orlando, Amazon
12 August 2004
  • Summary: I bought a stainless X-1 in October 2003. My purchase was based mostly on looks. I use the machine to make 2 lattes everyday - that amounts to about 25 seconds of pumping and 90 seconds of steam.

No, this is not a 5 Star Machine

Spaceman Kurt, Amazon
20 December 2003
  • Summary: I do love the looks, best design there is in a home machine - and the Williams Sonoma people were great when I took it back a year later - pressure weak, thermostat not reading. Steam power lame (needs to re-charge itself half way through a milk-steaming).

Beauty is Only Skin Deep...

Geoffrey V. Arone "the fredo", Amazon
8 December 2001
  • Summary: I purchased this unit along with a friend and we were both very unsatisfied by the quality of coffee this beautiful machine produced. I'll keep this review short: it is not powerful, is fragile, and does not make a consistent cup of coffee (I know all of the tricks, I used to be a barrista in...

Looks cool, but functions poorly

cappucino lover, Amazon
21 November 2001
  • Summary: This machine is a "design" machine that will look fancy on your kitchen counter. However there are some major disappointments when you start using it. Most annoying is the tiny water-reservoir, which is in the back and can only be accessed by pulling the 16 lb machine out to the front of the counter...

Ripoff Ripoff!

Bruce Loveitt, Amazon
12 November 2001
  • Summary: A lot of money for a very disappointing machine. This espresso/cappuccino maker is a triumph of packaging over product. The espresso comes out of the machine only lukewarm. I know that there isn't anything wrong mechanically, as the temperature gauge reads out where it is supposed to and the...

Good Coffee - Poor reliability

Amazon
15 July 2000
  • Summary: I bought one of these machines in 11/99; had to replace it in March and then just shipped back the replacement. It looked terrific in my kitchen, and made great coffee when it worked. But, the machine just isn't well made.

Poorly constructed

Yorkie, Amazon
3 August 2012
  • Summary: The machine makes lovely coffee, but unbelievably brittle. After a couple of cups of coffee the frother wheel broke, perhaps a truimph of style over substance? Anyway back to Amazon for a refund!

Good coffee but big flaws with the machine

Fingle, Amazon
13 August 2010
  • Summary: This machine makes great coffee ... for a while but the following problems make it a real pain. 1. Water reservoir to small and hard to get to. 2. Only small cups can be used as the hight between the drip tray and coffee block is too small. 3.
