Summary: We've had one of these machines for 3 and half years and it drives me crazy. Looks great - no doubt about about it, but have had to have it repaired several times (once under warranty), but it returns from the service centre with the same problem.
Summary: I could,nt believe it, an X1 in stainless for £360.00. I told myself it must be too good to be true. And it was. When I took it out of the box there was water inside the wrapping. I did,nt think it meant anything. I got the machine fired up and had some initial problems with the electronic beep not sounding and then the lights flashing but I seemed to rectify that after a look at the troubleshooting page. So now to make my coffee.
Summary: This is the coolest looking coffee machine I have seen. But, there are problems with the manufacturing / distribution. The first machine I ordered from Amazon came with a broken STEAMER knob: rendering the machine non-functional. Alas, the manufacturing problems extended to other components too: the part you place the coffee into comes with 2 containers: for making 1 cup or 2 cups, and they are meant to be interchangeable ...
Summary: My experience is very similar to others who have reviewed this coffee machine. Seduced by wonderful looks but then so disappointed when it just stopped working after less than 1 year. It starts then just stops after 5 seconds or so. Impossible to get repaired too.
Italian manufacture - looks good on the outside......

Summary: I must admit I was prejudiced against this Francis Francis machine because we already have several coffee and espresso makers - but my wife wanted it and bought it. Made reasonably good coffee, but water container far too small. First problem: none of our cups fitted underneath the spout. Second problem: the "divider fitting" for two cups kept falling off and frequently ended up in the rubbish bag. Third problem: the temperature guage stopped working after six months.
Summary: Very poor quality shots. Very messy. Mine's going in the bin! Buy La Pavoni or something else instead, for £200 less (not Gaggia - unreliable). Gets one star for looks. UPDATE 30 March 2012: Well, persuaded by wife not to throw away. After 3 years and 3 replacements, the latest one just blew-up! There was a loud bang followed extensive smoke from the internal machinery. The machine was carefully carried outdoors and left until the smoking stopped.
Summary: I was so looking forward to receiving this Francis Francis machine. I had done my research, read the reviews and decided I would splash out and treat myself to a classic coffee machine - with the looks and at the price surely the quality to keep me in coffee heaven for years to come. Made by the the same people who make my favourite brand Illy what could go wrong? Well for starters - whilst it looks great, it's not very practcal.
