Summary: i have had several good machines over the years. they usually stop working for one reason or another after a 2 or 3 years, so i try not to spend too much on them. Very happy with this machine, and hope it lasts a couple of years.
Summary: Before buying the EC270, I read many of the mixed reviews, here in Amazon. Some customers loved it, others complained of defective products. Having owned two other DeLonghi's in the past, I figured it was worth the shot, and, with Amazon's no-hassle replacement policy I could not lose. I was right on both counts. The first one I received was a "leaker"... As soon as I started brewing the first cup of espresso it started leaking from the bottom.
Summary: This espresso machine is great. It makes a great tasting espresso with little hassles. But there is two problems with it. The water tank leaks, like others have said, but mine has only leaked seriously once in the whole year I have owned it. I feel that it is my fault for not putting the water tank in all the way. The second problem is what annoys me the most is that the boiler doesn't maintain it's temperature enough.
Amazing, but there must be a quality control issue
8 February 2010
Summary: First, the machine makes a perfect espresso, and steams milk for cappuccino exactly right. As should be obvious from various reviews, there is a quality control issue - the first one I got started leaking randomly after a few days. No pattern, just we would wake up to the tank 2/3 empty, water all over the counter. Amazon sent another one, I returned the original, and problems seem to be solved.
Summary: The DeLonghi EC270 is my first espresso machine. I was looking into home espresso machines and really couldn't afford the price of many mid-high level machines, but this one looked like it would do great. The first thing I noticed, as I was unpacking the machine, was it's weight - not incredibly light, though not very heavy. And most of that weight is top-heavy, so you'll need to have an extremely firm grip on it when connecting the portafilter.
Summary: UPDATE 3: I have now had this Espresso maker for almost two years and it is still going strong. No problems at all since I replaced the water tank. The coffee quality is still excellent. I use the machine daily and descale about once every six weeks or so. I still love the coffee that this machine makes - I get freshly-roasted beans from Peace Coffee online and grind a week's worth at once. This coffee is so good - much better than any coffee house can make.
Summary: We have had one of these machines for nearly 2 years now & use it to produce espresso or cafe allongé for 6 or 8 cups daily. After a couple of weeks use, the usual water flooding problem occurred. Fortunately we use it on a plastic tray, so luckily no damage to work surfaces or the flooring. Tried the usual cures of fitting a new water tank seal, but no real improvement, the leak re-appeared.
Summary: This is a great Little espresso maker - Pros: space wise, looks great Heats the cups up to keep them warm before use tight fit when the press & turn has coffee in - Cons:(not really) the steam doesn't last as long as I like but still makes great foam hard to turn it's a tight fit when the press & turn has coffee in - It should hopefully loosen a little after a but more use - Overall this is a great little espresso maker.
Summary: Before buying this coffee maker, I read all the reviews and I narrowed it down to the ec270 or ec330s. My budget was up to around £130, so my options were reduced, but this looked like excellent value for money, despite the negative comments from some. I noticed the negative comments were pretty much all based around 2 problems that I'll comment on below. I paid £88.97.
