I wasn't concerned about the taste but about the fact I was getting good espresso but the gauge barely moved

Summary: I bought a amazon model warehouse model first. The water reservoir was shattered, there where huge dings and dents, and multiple scratches; this was hardly the "minor cosmetic damage" that was advertised. That went back and I bought a new one. I am experienced espresso maker and when the pressure gauge didn't work after going through a pound of coffee, adjusting this and that, I gave up and called Breville.
Summary: I bought this machine in January of 2009. The boiler recently sprang a leak. For the price, I don't think that 5 or so years is a pretty good durability record. I did descale it regularly as per manufacturer's instructions. Before the leak, the quality of the espresso it produced was hit or miss. It was very fickle with respect to fineness of the ground. I won't be buying another and will be opting for a Rancilio Silvia V3 to replace it.
Summary: I don't really know how to write the review. To start with I returned it but it wasn't all bad really. It's got a great finish but it wasn't worth the money to me, for quality. To be fair I worked at a coffee shop for 4 years, and drink 3-6 cups of coffee daily, and the machine I worked on cost $30,000, which is just not a fair comparison.
Summary: We would never put another Breville product in our home. IF it does break there is absolute zero change of getting any level of customer service. Best of luck if you buy one.... You are on your own.
Summary: I love this machine and the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it does not have the grinder. It makes delicious shots beautiful crema and is reliable. I love the programmable feature where I can set it to make my coffee shots the same everytime. Great machine.
Summary: For a refurbished price I got the machine for a little over $150, I had a Saecco, the Starbucks barista machine, it was OK, this machine kicks it in the #@$% Fantastic, steams milk in 20 seconds, fantastic crema, hot product, follow the instructions and you get absolutely as good as a coffee as you can buy ANYWHERE, AND I MEAN ANYWHERE. With Illy coffee, ground fresh in a capresso grinder I now have perfect coffee.
Summary: This is my third purchase of a pump type espresso machine. The first one was a Gaggia, the second a Capresso. Both were disasters. This Breville is fabulous. It is user friendly, makes a great cup of coffee and has an excellent steaming mechanism. It is obviously upscale with its beautiful stainless body. I am hoping there isn't a hidden plastic piece that will give out and change my opinion. I am using it about two weeks and can find no fault with it.
Summary: I bought this machine refurbished as an upgrade from an inexpensive machine. I have to say "WOW". This is a well designed system. I really love the progam feaure that allows you to brew a single or double shot just by pushing a button. No more watching until your cup is filled to the right level. Whether using pods or ground espresso, the Breville brews as good a cup as I've had. I like the all stainless steamer/frother.
Summary: I have to admit I'm not a coffee expert but I can tell the difference between good and not-so-good coffee and this machine does make good coffee, much better coffee that I can usually get from a local Starbucks. Very solid construction, brass filter holder has very nice weight to it. This is my first real espresso maker and so far I'm very pleased. I bought it refurb elsewhere but it was as good as new - no signs of previous use.
