Summary: I wanted to buy a Technivorm but could not afford it. Found this while browsing and jumped on it. I love its simplicity and it makes excellent coffee. Easy to clean, came with a pot brush which was a nice surprise. Well made and easy to store. I recommend it very highly.
Pros: Makes delicious hot 8 cup carafe thermos of coffee. This equals 4 mugs of coffee. The thermos conveniently can be placed on the table. No heating coil under the thermos carafe, thus saving energy. The tab for pouring, seals the coffee in the thermos, operates flawlessly. Consistent high quality of unit.
Cons: The coffee filter holder can be awkward to store. Pricey unit for a simple design.
Summary: German utilitarian engineering. well constructed, perfect temperature for brewing coffee every time. the water showers down over the grounds instead of a stream through just the center of the grounds. I look forward to each morning. the carafe is well conceived and keeps coffee hot without having to burn the already brewed coffee. easy to keep clean. unique design. am very happy with this purchase.
simple machine which makes 8 cups of coffee house hot coffee

Summary: Love this coffee maker! Makes a perfect coffee house cup of coffee by boiling the water to the ideal 200F plus temperature. Very simple and easy to clean. Only feature I wish it had was an automatic timer to start early morning on the occasion I need it. But it brews pretty quickly. The coffee stays hot in the carafe much longer than my previous thermal carafe. It is lined with glass and may not last as long as my previous carafe (about 10 years).
Pros: As advertised and consistent with the reviews we found before we bought it. America's Test Kitchen and others said it performed as well as the expensive Dutch machine to which all others are compared for much less money. It is a very simple design as the filter basket simply rests on top of the carafe and has to be removed after brewing to thread on the carafe lid. It brews very quickly, a full pot (8 cups) right at 5 minutes and averages just over 200 degrees while b...
Cons: It doesn't look like a $170 coffee machine and doesn't have the bells and whistles you might expect at that price. The carafe lid pours slowly because the opening isn't very large. If your primary concern is the flavor of your coffee none of that matters.
You won't find a better drip coffee maker! It is simply the best!

Summary: I bought this so I could get the BEST cup of coffee using the easiest way. This is it! This, a burr grinder and fresh roasted beans! It doesn't have any bells or whistles but heats the water to 200 degrees and brews long enough to get the full taste out of the bean. It is also approved by the specialty coffee association of America. It is the best coffee maker ever. The thermal cafe is great as well. It even showers over your coffee instead of drips.
If you're fussy about coffee quality, this one's for you.

Summary: I've gone through a lot of coffee makers recently, and have been disgusted with them all. This one's a keeper. If you're looking for features such as timers or pouring before brew is complete, the BV1800TH is not for you (this isn't the way to make good coffee, anyway). It's limited to 8 cup capacity, but that's enough for me. The only negative I can find is the tinted water tank, making it almost impossible to see the water level, but I can live with that.
