Summary: When the CD player on my unit failed today - I decided to replace it and learned that this is a long discontinued (by Sony) model. I paid $140 for this unit back in 2002 - and it has worked fairly well. Not all local stations are received well - even though we live in a strong signal (suburban)area.
Summary: The under the counter radio/CD player is a nice looking unit. It comes with an easy to use template to help line up the installation of it for a good placement under the cabinet in the kitchen. I got this one to replace the GE unit I have had for 15+ years. I was expecting better sound; it is O.K. The quality of the tuner is average, and for not so strong stations, fair.
Summary: Volume down button started to only occasionally work after 1 year, and after 3 years broke entirely. Other than that had no problems, good reception, CD player always worked, but it's likely going to cost about as much to repair as to buy new. My plan: Hemmecher-Schlemmer model that has a lifetime guarantee.
Summary: My husband gave this to me as a gift several years ago. I guess I've been lucky, since the radio reception is fine and it plays all the CDs I've ever tried on it, including home-burned ones. However, within just a few months the button to lower the volume stopped working. Since listening to a radio station or CD requires much lower volume than listening to a TV station's signal, I have to raise and lower the volume depending on what I'm listening to.
Summary: There are very few under-counter radio options besides the Sony, which probably explains its popularity more than any other factor. Given the space constraints, the reception is decent considering the antenna is in the power cord, though we have strong signals in a major metropolitan area. You should plug the unit into the intended installation space to test its reception BEFORE installing.
Summary: I purchased this for my mother-in-law for christmas. She love's it! It takes up little room and had exceptional sound quality and is very easy for her to operate. It has a very streamlined design and looks great in her kitchen. Really compliments stainless steel appliances and grantie counter tops.
Summary: Love it! We are surrounded by hills and woods so I was concerned about reception, but it is excellent. It was relatively easy to put in (minimal groaning from my husband who attached it under the cabinet), takes up no space. Highly recommend this product to anyone considering an under-the-counter CD player/radio.
Summary: I bought this unit for my mom in December 2002. I bought it to replace another radio unit that was under the cabinet. After nearly five years, this unit works great. We've had no problems with it whatsoever.
