See lessWindows Mobile probably makes is a better choice for a business user or pro-sumer, but Sony Ericsson's Panels help it be a better consumer device than some of its competitors that run the same operating system. It's unfortunate that no U.S. phone company picked this model up, so it's not available with a subsidy. That pushes the price out of many people's range; eXpansys is currently offering the X1 for $670. Still, I can see it being worth that price if you're looking... Read more
While we had some problems with our initial Xperia X1, in the end we were fairly impressed by Sony Ericsson's first foray into the world of Windows Mobile. Learn more in Michael's 5 part video review. Read more
Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 hasn't been the easiest handset to procure here on US soil, despite being " available " since Black Friday. Still, we know hardcore HTC / SE fanatics have figured out a way to get their palms in touch with the X1a (or X1i for international users). You already heard our spill on the handset, but now we're interested in finding out how you'd tweak things if given the all-important keys to the design lab. It goes even further to outperform its main rival - the HTC Touch Pro - in a number of areas and even offers slightly larger display and higher resolution. Yes, unlocked phones are always more expensive than subsidized carrier-offered phones, but the X1 costs a whopping $450 more than the HTC Fuze, and $400 more than the BlackBerry Bold (both with two-year AT&T contracts). Worse, it's $350 more than the also-unlocked, Editors' Choice–winning Nokia E71 . Sure, the X1 is a luxurious phone, but given the competition, it simply isn't worth the premium, which makes it difficult for me to recommend. Read more
I got this as a replacement to my ATT Tilt. I also have a Sony W880i which I really like. I picked this one up for slightly below $600. While the build quality on this phone is fantastic compared to the ATT Tilt, in all other respects it is almost identical to the Tilt, albeit with a much better screen. I also have an itouch, and I have to say the itouch multimedia capabilities really blows my Xperia out of the water! I am mentioning the itouch here since I guess that is... Read more
My worse experience with a handphone ever. Here are the reasons: 1. Phone - hangs often, at least twice a day but ok after switching it off and then on again. 2. SMS - allows only one line of text visible and sometimes even that line may become compressed and I can't see what I am typing at all! Difficult to cut and paste, forward, call phone numbers in message, have to delete everything twice - once in inbox and again in deleted items. 3. Panels - looks nice but in... Read more
