Sony Xperia Active Review: In Depth

Recombu
28 March 2014
  • Conclusion: The Sony Ericsson Xperia Active is clearly pitched at sporty types looking for a phone that also makes a good running companion (the phone even comes packaged with an arm strap that contains a clear plastic wallet for the handset). If this is what you're after, it's a brilliant device. We submerged the phone completely in water, made calls on it, took pictures and recorded video; we really did give it every excuse to break down.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Active Review

Tech2
17 February 2012
  • Summary: The Xperia Active is priced at Rs. 19,500 (MRP) and the increasing difference between the Rupee and Dollar is taking its toll on the pricing of smartphones as well. We're mentioning this because just a few days back, the market operating price for the phone was around Rs.17,500. The only competition at present to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Active is the Motorola Defy+, which we'll be reviewing shortly, so stay tuned for that.

Sony Ericsson Xperia active Review

cellphonequick.com
14 December 2011
  • Summary: The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Active has one other lifestyle feature up its sleeve — it claims to feature wet finger tracking, meaning the phone “works perfectly” when either the screen or a user’s fingers are wet.
  • Pros: Waterproof and dustproof, Range of accessories in the box, Pre-installed fitness apps
  • Cons: Very poor call quality, Low in-call volume, Camera low on detail

Sony Ericsson Xperia active Review

Phone Arena
19 October 2011
  • Conclusion: We can’t help but like the Sony Ericsson Xperia active , given the multitude of accessories you get out of the box, not to mention the weatherproofing and pre-installed fitness apps. We even grew to like the protruding bottom as it houses the lanyard which we found ourselves using all the time. Unfortunately however, nothing saves the Xperia active’s call in-call speaker. It really is a shame and weighs heavily on our rating.
  • Pros: Waterproof and dustproof, Range of accessories in the box, Pre-installed fitness apps
  • Cons: Very poor call quality, Low in-call volume, Camera low on detail

Sony Ericsson Xperia Active vs Motorola Defy – which one’s the best for an active lifestyle?

Gadgetmania
6 August 2011
  • Conclusion: In the end, the choice is up to you. If you want to use your rugged smartphone as a “smartphone”, then the Defy is a better choice, despite its shortcomings, but if the “rugged” part is more important to you than browsing Web sites, the Xperia Active will be a better companion. Either way, we’re all glad that rugged smartphones are finally a reality and hope that more will be coming soon.

Xperia Active – finally, a good competitor to the Defy – user review

Gadgetmania
13 July 2011
  • Conclusion: The Xperia Active will be available this summer, and Sony Ericsson have already started their advertising campaigns on TV and online, so it should be here soon. Depending on the cost, this could be a better choice overall than the Motorola Defy, although if you want the ultimate ruggedness in a smartphone, the Xperia Active is the best choice.

  • Conclusion: This makes great use of the limited screen space available, and means you can create small app shortcut groups so that similar apps are kept together for quick access. There’s also a range of nice widgets you can spread across the five home screens.

31 March 2012
  • Summary: Tough as iron and rough as steel, the new Sony Ericsson Xperia Active is a marvel and very fir for those who like to stay fit. Do whatever you can to make it miserable and yet it will shine with the same gleam. The Sony Ericsson Xperia active is a survivor. The rugged Smartphone has a Bravia Reality display and exchangeable covers, 1GHz of oomph and HD video, and plenty of sporty apps. Go wherever and it’ll follow- tucked under an arm strap.
