Summary: The Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman is a fairly basic phone with a focus on mobile music. Despite its iconic Walkman branding, though, its music capabilities are average, and its software is frustratingly slow.
Cons: Sluggish; no microSD card in the box; poor button placement; no 3G; buggy operating system.
Summary: The Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman is a feature phone designed with the music loving younger generation in mind who can’t really afford to purchase a more expensive smartphone and sports a 3-inch scratch resistant touch screen, and for those youngsters that might be considering the Mix Walkman. The Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman wills buyers to believe it’s a smartphone, with an interface that looks snazzy and seems to offer plenty of connected functionality from a quick glance.
Pros: Wi-Fi, Excellent external speaker, Very little distortion from the media player, Capacitive touchscreen
Cons: Buggy platform prone to reboots, Walkman music player is incredibly basic, No QWERTY keyboard, Laggy touchscreen, No real apps
Conclusion: Sony Ericsson really hasn't done enough here to make the musical aspects of the Mix Walkman stand out - and without the added allure of 3G or an app store to expand on what's on board (though Java apps are supported) we find this handset hard to recommend.
Conclusion: Overall, the Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman has more than a few drawbacks, but its low price makes up for most of them. Currently, the phone can be found for about $120 off contract, which makes it a bargain considering the features that it packs. We were impressed with its beautiful display and the Wi-Fi connectivity is a significant bonus that will definitely come in handy. Most importantly, it handles its primary purpose of being a music-oriented device fairly well.
Pros: Good-looking display, Relatively cheap for its features, Wi-Fi support
Cons: Touchscreen is tricky to use, Lack of a microSD card in the set
Conclusion: We have looked at the Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman and just can’t quite decide why it exists when Sony Ericsson already have many phones that are more than capable of delivering the full music experience. If we wanted to choose a mobile device from Sony that was cheap in price but capable of offering an entertaining experience with music, video, web browsing and social networking we wouldn’t choose the Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman.
Excerpt: Quite a useful handset, offering music, snapper and even Wi-Fi. Some nice touches, such as being able to add five favourite friends and opt to contact them via text, email, Facebook or Twitter Sony Ericsson has managed to get a 3-inch display into a neat sized body, with a matt rubber finish on the reverse.
