but it rarely dropped calls and the sound quality was good. My only major issue was that Samsung does ...

Summary: I purchased this unlocked phone about 2 1/2 years ago, and only recently bought a replacement for it because I broke the screen. It was a reliable and capable phone; surprisingly durable (I dropped it without a case every other week on average for two years, and it still worked fine), and had the look and feel of a smartphone without actually being a smartphone (I don't have a data plan and don't want one).
Great phone for calling & texts!! No data plan needed.

Summary: Bought this for hubby because he just needs a phone to call & text, not a smartphone. This is better than the crappy dumb phones sold at the Phone store. I had had this phone before so I knew it was a good performing phone. Nothing fancy but nice touch screen which locks easy & prevents butt calling. Also full size keyboard for texting. I bought the LAST one from the supplier out of FL. It said refurbished but came in original box & looked new.
Summary: For my purposes, the Samsung A887 Solstice fills the bill. It’s better, slicker, than a run-of-the-mill barebones cell phone. While it can access the Internet, the browsing is quite cumbersome. Also, unlike later “smartphones,” your access to the Internet is strictly through your cellular service (in my case Consumer Cellular); there is no Wi-Fi capability for charge-free access at home or any “hot spots” on the road.
Summary: This is my second Solstice. I wore the first one out after 4 years of hard use. I have a texting plan that gives me unlimited internet access and although I can't use APPS with it...no big deal I don't need it for that. I use the phone to make phone calls. Gee isn't that what a phone is supposed to do? Fine if you want to surf. Go ahead and buy a smart phone. And enjoy an expensive data plan.
Summary: My wife needed a new phone but didn't want anything fancy (doesn't listen to music, text or photos) just a plain phone. Well finding that took some research unlesss I found one used. Checked Amazon and the Samsung Solstice seemed to be the closes to just a phone with the exception of a touch screen. Well I must say that I was even empressed with it (might get one for myself when the need comes) because I am the one who has to teach her how to use it.
Summary: I like the phone, still getting used to some of the features. Easy to navigate. I like that it fits nicely in my pocket and handbag. Pictures don't appear to be that great. That's okay, I really don't use the camera, I just testing to see how they look. I don't use the phone a lot. Definitely don't surf the net. The battery life could be better. Looks like I'm down to two bars about every three days with very little use.
Summary: Confortable cell, good price .Its works ok and has good size. You can save it in your pocket without problem. The only thing is that is not a smart phone but if you whant internet you can get a data service and then you can surf on the internet.Works good whif AT&T.
