Samsung’s new SGH-X820 has established itself as one of the slimmest cell phones ever made. The phone looks very attractive and, quite suitably, boasts a 2-megapixel camera with a huge array of customizations. It allows users to shoot pictures in seven resolutions and offers a high degree of control with adjustable color, quality, ISO and image balance. The camera also captures video clips in two resolutions. There’s a media player installed with basic capabilities and will only suffice for a casual listen. It plays three media formats and provides a few customizable settings. The X820 is also equipped with a number of corporate tools like a speakerphone, email support, PC syncing, stereo Bluetooth and the Picsel Viewer for viewing Microsoft Office documents.

The X820 comes with great connectivity, but no USB support. The integrated Bluetooth performs without any hassle but the lack of a USB cable limits file transfer. Multimedia features on this phone are quite average as the camera itself produces mediocre images and the media player is very minimalist, so music fans would be disappointed. Calls, on the other hand, sound exceptionally good and test results from CNET show high clarity with little or no interference. Volume tends to be a shade low, but is adequate for a normal conversation. The included battery lasts for four hours of talktime. Unless you’re looking for an ultra-smart handset with every feature you wish for, the X820 is a very good choice and provides great value for its price.
