The candy-bar Samsung SGH-X700 may not be the most powerful phone, but it's packed with useful features, like a 1.3-megapixel camera, FM radio, Bluetooth, video and MP3 player and an onboard memory slot. The X700 comes with a rubbery surface exterior which gives the phone a nice matte finish that will not easily stain, and offers a better overall grip. There’s also a sliding cover for the headphone port. The 1.9-inch LCD displays crisp and bright images with good color balance. However, the keypad isn’t very responsive at times, probably because of the way the buttons are contoured. The “menu” and “contacts” keys are also placed too far down from the screen, which makes for a less intuitive user experience. The keypad of the phone is not very user friendly – since it's quite cramped, users have to thumb through the options their fingertips. The 1.3-megapixel camera produces decent image captures, and it can also record short video clips. There's no in-built flash light, but that should be a minor issue.

The X700 features a standard MP3 as well as video player. While sound quality from the phone is above average, the speaker is too soft at times. Also, there are no onboard equalizer settings. The X700 also does not support MP3s encoded in 320kbps, so users have to re-encode their MP3s at a lower bit rate to play on the phone. Samsung places the speaker on two sides of the LCD display, so the sound stays clear and loud even if it is placed face down on the desk. There is also an FM radio with 30-channel memory that works only with the stereo headset attached. Although the phone comes with 35 MB of built-in memory, the microSD slot gives users the option to add more storage. There are no issues with the quality of voice calls or reception, and the user interface is also intuitive and responsive. There is no significant lag when operating the phone and SMS texting is smooth and quick. Starting up the camera takes a mere 2 seconds, while music playback is almost instantaneous. The X700 comes equipped with the usual bundle of connectivity options that includes Bluetooth and USB. The battery lasts for 5-6 hours of talk-time or 2 days of regular use. The Samsung SGH-X700 is an affordable phone that comes with many multimedia features.
