An OK backup, liveable even as a primary phone, if that's all you need.
25 February 2014
Summary: We had these phones sometime back, and I just reactivated my old beat-up one as a spare having sold my iPhone 3GS (the SIM in my 3GS was backward compatible). If nothing else, you will like the fact that you don't have to live with your charger anymore if you have been using a new smartphone. This phone actually will work under average use for three days before you have to recharge.
Excerpt: This was my first ever cell phone in 4th grade. Smart phones were not made then so flip phones and slide phones were big. As a young kid, this phone served its purpose. It allowed me to call and/or text my parents jut as I had gotten it for. Its fast and easy and it really wasn't a bad phone!
Pros: easy to use, cheap, great first phone, travel size, pretty display
Excerpt: I first purchase the samsung x497 in April 2006, i was very very happy especially because of the speaker phone. This was my first time ever getting a cell phone that had a speaker. Now that its 3 months later (July 2006), I feel the opposite. To be honest, I have dropped the phone on several occasions so i really don't know if this is the reason my phone has been shutting off every time I try to charge it.
Excerpt: Since I have had this phone it has worked upto my expectations even when it got wet by accident it continued to work without any issues. I'm even planing on getting another one for my other line anyone who has problems with this phone either didn't read the instructions or its to difficult for them to operate and they need a simple phone to call on
Excerpt: I have never experienced anything as frustrating....very poor reception and callers cannot hear me 75% of the time. Incoming calls intrude on existing calls so I end up talking to someone entirely different than the person I began speaking with. Drops calls constantly, there is NOTHING good to say about this phone...it should be removed from the market....Cingular should pay me to use the phone. I have had it replaced 3 different times and still it doesn't work...
Excerpt: I had the Cingular X497 and it is freaking tight! The silver on the out side scratches easy, but it gets better reception then my brothers Chocolate, and I recently upgraded to a Nokia 6102i (see my review on that) because I couldn't stand to be with out a camera, plus I had to have one so I could be the "Historian" for BSA.
Excerpt: I've had this phone for 8 months and ever since I got it, all I've had is DROPPED CALLS and VERY BAD RECEPTION!!! It brags of a TRI BAND feature that doesn't do any justice at all. That is what sold me on buying the phone. I had a Nokia 3595 previous to this that wasn't as "fancy" as this phone, but had way better reception and never dropped a call in the year and a half that I had it. The upside to this phone is that it is a sturdy model.
Excerpt: Got this phone free. (Had a samsung e-105 and it was a tank. Lasted 2 years w/o problem). First day I missed 3 calls because the side button silenced my calls(I keep phone in my front pocket). I can't believe there's no way to lock side button! Speakerphone was a must in decision and I think the speakerphone sound is the best with a full deep tone, but why two clicks to activate it? I returned it and got a nokia 6102 (also free).
