The Samsung SGH-E530 is a flip phone that is marketed to women users. Although there are color choices like Lavender, Oasis Blue, Valentine Pink, Chic White and Festival Orange, the phone also features Bluetooth, MP3 and MPEG-4 playback, and a megapixel camera. The top cover of the E530C is divided in three sections: The scratch-prone polished center in color flanked by two matt silver strips on the sides. This somehow manages to give an illusion of a slimmer-looking phone. The rounded-edge side profile is an interesting departure from the normal wedge-shaped one seen on many other clamshells. Overall, the ergonomic shape of the phone makes it a real pleasure to hold. Inside the Samsung clamshell, the buttons are all uniquely shaped. With a little practice, users are able to access the phone and type messages intuitively without having to see the keypad, a very useful feature particularly when traveling.

The E530C performs well for calls and reception, and the battery lasts for more than three days with normal use. One problem, however, is the tendency for the camera function on the handset to be activated accidentally when placed in a bag or pocket. This tends to drain the battery and take a whole chunk of memory space. Although the Samsung comes with Bluetooth connectivity, it has only dualband GSM (900/1800) support. This means it cannot be used in countries like the US which operate on the GSM 850 and 1900 networks. The built-in MP3 player produced crisp music playback quality and offers a range of audio options such as equalizer display selection, customizable skins and 3D sound effects. The onboard 1.3 megapixel camera also churned out reasonably sharp images. Unfortunately, there is a slight lag when taking photos, so users must maintain the phone's position for at least 2 seconds after clicking on the shutter button. To take another shot, users have to access the menu again, which is a hassle for those who want to capture candid moments. What's missing in the E530C lineup is a memory expansion card slot as the 92MB onboard storage is hardly sufficient for images and music, not to mention large MPEG-4 video files which can also be played back on the phone. The phone is marketed to women with a few different quirks besides the cute names. There’s a “Women's World” software package, with a height/weight ratio converter, calorie counter, a calendar, biorhythm, shopping list, and a fragrance type. There are also some soothing ringtones. The Samsung SGH-E530C is a phone with some nice features and a gimmick, but the price makes it somewhat expensive.
