Samsung SGH-D600/D600E

The Samsung SGH-D600 is a slider-phone and a successor to Samsung’s highly acclaimed D500. Major improvements include the 2-megapixel camera and the glorious 2-inch display. Otherwise, the D600 is much similar to its predecessor in terms of specs. Its basic features include text and multimedia messaging, email, full Bluetooth and a web browser apart from basic capabilities. The onboard camera also acts as a camcorder and as an improved version, provides many customizations and settings and lets users edit the captured images. The phone has 77 MB of internal memory but is expandable through a Micro SD slot. This is useful as the included media player supports a variety of formats and boasts several options for customizing playback.

Unfortunately, not all of the D600’s enhancements are for the better. The media player is a supposedly huge attraction but is rather a disappointment. The stereo speakers are below average and output is barely audible in noisy environments. The included headphones are even worse; their playback is of poor quality and best left alone. The camera, however, is very impressive and snaps exceptional stills and video clips. The only complaint here is the lack of autofocus; so don’t expect great results when you’re shooting moving objects. Connectivity is also much improved with tri-band support over dual-band predecessors. Overall, the D600 is a worthy successor to the D500 and a powerful multimedia phone in itself. Therefore, the handset is worthy of a strong recommendation.
