The Samsung Omnia II I8000 comes very close to nailing it, but there are a few things that really hold it back. First and foremost is the lag, especially on the homescreen. It is bad enough at times to ruin the entire user experience. Still, Samsung has done a great job of penetrating the Windows Mobile interface. The menus are a joy to use, and they go much deeper than any Windows Mobile overhaul we’ve seen. If they could take care of the front end as well as... Read more
The sub title for the original Omnia review we wrote back in August of 2008 was "something for everyone." The Omnia of last year was exceptionally well-rounded, with features to appease everyone from the multimedia fiend to the business user. This title is also perfectly fitting for the Omnia II. Samsung was meticulous in making sure that the Omnia II had every radio and feature that the most discerning of power users demand, and they've succeeded. The innovative use of... Read more
The Samsung Omnia 2 is an impressive phone on paper. It packs some great features, so in theory it should be a top notch business phone with a lot of multimedia power thrown in. DiVX playback, for instance, is still unheard of on most phones, and movies looked great on the Omnia 2's AMOLED screen. But Samsung has gone so wrong with the interface that it's difficult and frustrating to use, and impossible to enjoy. The TouchWiz interface is just horrible, a hodgepodge of... Read more
The Omnia II is Samsung’s flagship phone for not just Verizon but the world; even now, it's still trumpeted as an important device from Korea through to Europe and North America. I've been waiting for a smartphone like this one for a long time, while holding to my venerable iPAQ 2215 PDA for over 6 years. I must say the Omnia II is a great successor. I had quite a lot of requirements for a smartphone: Windows Mobile platform (lots of free and commercial software available), wi-fi and bluetooth capabilities (and not curtailed, liked in the iPhone), integrated GPS, high-resolution camera and standard connections (micro-USB and 3.5 audio jack).... Verizon is on top of things with their Droids and Omnia phones. I already had the first Omnia and I loved it so when Verizon released the Omnia 2 I knew it was also a winner. I love the bright screen and easy operation. This phone is packed with features. I have not noticed any slowness or kinks in this phone. The Verizon 3G network works beautifully too. I have friends that have iPhones and although the iPhone may be slick my friends can't receive a call from me even... Read more
