Samsung Galaxy Mega Review: In Depth

5 December 2013
  • Conclusion: First impressions are certainly deceptive with the Samsung Galaxy Mega. It’s size seems prohibitively big at first, but it actual makes for a great experience, both navigating the interface and especially when watching content. From a practical standpoint, it’s worth checking whether you have bags or pockets big enough to accommodate this phone, but if you’re looking for a purpose-built, well connected movie-friendly phone this is one of the best.
  • Pros: Excellent screen, Premium design, Expandable memory
  • Cons: Large size makes this a niche device, UI isn't optimised for one-handed use, Poor 3D gaming performance

Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8

9 July 2013
  • Summary: It's difficult to recommend the Galaxy Mega 5.8. To start with you get better specifications from the Huawei Ascend Mate for the same price. Sure, the Mega 5.8 has a good camera; works well as a phone, and features Samsung shenanigans. However, the display and build of the device feel lacklustre when compared to the competition. If you want a device with a really large display that isn't the Galaxy Note II, you should consider the Galaxy Mega 6.3 or the Ascend Mate.
  • Pros: Good camera, Smooth interface, Slew of Samsung preloaded apps
  • Cons: Lacklustre display, Low performance when compared to other phones in the same price range, Lags during heavy gaming

Phone Arena
22 May 2013
  • Conclusion: No, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 isn't ridiculous despite its gargantuan proportions. It is simply not a smartphone for the mainstream market. Rather, it is meant to be used by a very specific demographic – those few who want their smartphone to have a large display above all. Without a doubt, having such a huge screen makes gaming a lot more comfortable and it is great for watching video or photos.
  • Pros: Large screen makes gaming and watching videos very comfortable, Decent camera, Dual SIM phone
  • Cons: Low resolution display, Occasional performance issues, Difficult to handle and carry around
