Samsung Gear 2 Neo Review

Softpedia
23 April 2014
  • Excerpt: The problem was that the original Galaxy Gear wasn’t exactly the most accomplished product. Its design left a lot to be improved, it was laggy and the battery life was pretty dreadful lasting users a meager 24 hours. Add a hefty price tag and the lack of apps and it’s no wonder the Galaxy Gear paled in comparison with other offerings such as the Pebble or Pebble Steel.

Samsung covers all bases with lighter, camera-free Gear 2 Neo (hands-on)

CNET
19 May 2014
  • Summary: The Gear 2 Neo offers the best balance of features and price among Samsung's three 2014 smartwatches, but it falls short of must-have status.
  • Pros: Samsung's Gear 2 Neo comes with a more attractive price, a feature set that's nearly identical to the more expensive Gear 2, and a lot of bells and whistles including apps, offline music playback, and heart-rate monitoring.
  • Cons: Many of the extras don't work as smoothly as you'd expect. Fitness features aren't well thought out, need polishing. Works only with Samsung phones and tablets.

PC Advisor

  • Excerpt: At £169, the Neo is almost half the price of the flagship Gear 2 . That's a much more attractive price but it's no surprise that things are a little cut down in comparison. The Sony SmartWatch 2 is still a but cheaper but it is older.

Samsung Gear 2 Neo Review

Mobile Choice UK
14 May 2014
  • Conclusion: Another step in the right direction, Samsung is getting closer to creating the perfect smartwatch. The Gear 2 Neo is priced more competitively than the regular Gear 2, while the lack of a camera and metal body will be seen as justified in pursuit of a lower cost. The wearable tech revolution is edging ever closer, it just isn't here yet.
  • Pros: More affordable than the Gear 2. Bright and beautiful display. The perfect exercise companion.
  • Cons: Issues with screen not coming on when asked. Poor battery life. Too large for some.

Samsung Gear 2 Neo review

Stuff.tv
17 April 2014
  • Summary: The Gear 2 Neo is now the cheapest way to get a Samsung smartwatch on your wrist. It’s the ‘budget’ plastic version of Samsung’s Gear 2 , does 99% of what the more expensive device can do and trims in all the right places while knocking the price down by £70. It sounds like a recipe for success and in some ways it is - the Neo still isn't perfect, but it is the Gear we'd be most likely to buy.
  • Pros: Lightweight but durable, Bright, sharp, colourful screen, Excellent battery life, On-board music playback
  • Cons: Disappointing app store, Only works with Samsung phones, Cheaper than Gear 2 but still pricey

  • Cons: Not enough apps available, More clockfaces needed, Media controller needs to do link up with more media players, Requires a Samsung smartphone to use

Samsung Gear 2 Neo

TechRadar UK
27 February 2014
  • Excerpt: The Gear 2 Neo is an odd device - not because it's a smartwatch, and not because it arrives less than six months after its predecessor, but because it's a slimmed down version of the main Gear device.
