Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 vs Xolo Q1100: battle of the budget beaters
15 March 2014
Excerpt: In the wake the launch of the ultra popular Motorola Moto G, there have been some great launches for the mid-range dual SIM market. Even smaller brands like Xolo have been targeting the Moto G since its official launch throughout the world. Samsung announced the Galaxy Grand 2, the successor to last year’s mid-range best seller, but held off its price disclosure till the Moto G was made available.
Conclusion: Plus two CPU cores, +100ppi, LTE, a bigger screen, beefier battery and looking sharper, the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is a sequel made in heaven. Then again, we're talking Samsung and dual SIM, so that could've easily been another sequel made in ... a hurry. And since we're well past the point of spoilers - that's not the case here. Definitely not.

Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 review: The Grand refresh is not worth its Rs 24,890 price tag
11 February 2014
Summary: The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is officially available for Rs 24,890 but you can find it for it little lesser online and in most stores. Samsung is charging a Rs 4,000 premium over Grand Duos’s launch price and we feel this is too much for what’s on offer. If this was mid-2013 and the Grand 2 launched for this price, it would have been acceptable.
Summary: Samsung has done some substantial upgrades this time and tried to fix the mistakes it made on the first Galaxy Grand. We can say that they have actually succeeded this time. Grand 2 is an excellent phone if you are looking for a large screen phone with good performance. But if the screen size doesn't matter to you, then there are better phones with similar specs at much lower prices.
Pros: Good screen, Nice build quality, Good performance
Cons: May be too big for some users, Screen prone to smudges, Overpriced
Summary: The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is a typical smartphone from the Samsung factory. It is comparatively thinner than the previous edition and comes with a slightly bigger display. The faux leather in white looks elegant but the cheap metal around the sides doesn’t add any shine to it. The volume keys are placed on the left followed by the power key on the right. The audio jack faces upward whilst the USB port is placed at the bottom. Grander? Let’s poke deeper.

Summary: Released as an updated version of 2013’s Galaxy Grand, Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 comes with some meaningful upgrades over its predecessor, which includes enhanced performance, larger screen and improved HD viewing experience. • Good camera • Impressive battery life • Dual-SIM • HD display • Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS • Voice control & Multi window features • Highly responsive touch screen • Lacks USB HOST function • Inconsistent performance • Reflective screen • Poor...
Pros: Good camera , Impressive battery life , Dual-SIM , HD display , Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS , Voice control & Multi window features , Highly responsive touch screen
Cons: Lacks USB HOST function , Inconsistent performance , Reflective screen , Poor sunlight visibility
Conclusion: The upgraded Galaxy Grand is definitely better than the Grand handset, for the extra price. The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is selling for under Rs. 23,000. It is a good buy considering the feature but would have been better if it was priced a little lower. Key attraction is the Android 4.3 OS working out of the box, quad core and regional language support.
