Philips Savvy: Rugged and Reliable Friend

Dooyoo
5 October 2006
  • Summary: A rugged and reliable phone - but then it spends most of its time switched off until I need to make a call. It does lack enough memory but then why am I keeping stuff in the memory. My grandson says the ring tones are naff, but then am I bothered? I serves me for my basic needs. Would like to find a wind up charger for it tho? But the thought of a phone with a camera is getting attractive.
  • Pros: Sturdy build - does its job
  • Cons: memory and naff ring tones

  • Excerpt: "I have had a yellow phillips savvy for almost 3 years now. overall, i have been very happy with it except it is now too outdated it weighs a lot and the antenna seems to take a lot of the room. it has a biocalendar so you can see your luck, chance etc and you can choose an icon smiley for your text messages something i have not seen on other phones obviously there is no camera or colour screen as the screen is very small and this makes text ...

Just a phone

LUNAH_C, Ciao

  • Excerpt: "If you want just a phone this is ideal. I had a motorola phone before this one and never really got to know it well. When I bought this one it was love at first sight. It is so simple to use. If you understand green to go, red to stop then you can use this phone. One press of the centre button takes you to all your numbers, just scroll to who you want and press the green button. At the end of the call press the red button. To send a message just press ...

Ashamed of your mobile?

scribbell..., Ciao
20 October 2003
  • Excerpt: "...mobile? Mine's a (still) a PHILIPS SAVVY - and the answer's no! I have tried updating at least three times but always end up coming back "home" to my trusty old Savvy! I have a feeling that Philips is no longer producing its Savvy any more, therefore if you want to buy one you may have to search the free-ads or second hand shops. Brand new they retail at £39.99 and are available on all major networks (BT,T-Mobile,Orange,Vodaphone and Virgin). The ...

  • Excerpt: "...phone diagnosis and O2 to Philips runaround when Philips confirm it's a Network fault and O2 then state clearly and catagoricly that it's a Software problem created by O2. Philips actually stated that O2 had ordered them NOT to fix these faults, after all they're not really faulty are they O2? or else why would you offer me an O2 card and gaurantee it would work in my faulty C12??????? General Comments: One out three still working despite the ...

Problems with Philips Savvy C12

Jeanmh, Ciao
30 August 2003
  • Excerpt: "I bought a Philips C12 two years ago to use for emergencies only. Since purchasing the phone I have not used more than £50 credit that is how little it has been used yet for no reason it has lost its network connection and re-registering it has the result that you get the message no network available, despite the fact that my area is well covered. The manufacturers inform me that I will have to pay £9.99 for them to look at the phone and test it. ...

Do not buy the c12

robert_ni..., Ciao
3 June 2003
  • Excerpt: "...to say this but the Philips Savvy C12 must be the worst phone ever built. Yes, that's right even worse than the Motorola 'Brick' I just don't know how people can have the bottle to go into the shop and purchase one of these phones. I would be far, far too embarrased! The phone has hardly any features, it is far too heave, there are hardly any ringtones too choose from and it is HUGE!!! I just don't beleive that they went up from £29.99 to ...

Cheap as chips

Happymama, Ciao
1 February 2003
  • Excerpt: "I bought my C12 a three or so years ago - the yellow one, as above. It's still giving sterling service, and the £10 every quarter (£40 a year) pay-as-you-go contract has cost me a grand total of £50. How they're monitoring the useage I don't know, but as I'm a very light user I'm quids in and quite chuffed that O2 haven't noticed yet that a tenner can last me nine months. I've dropped it on the floor, in water, my baby's teethed on it, the cat's chewed ...

Not for the easily bored

DKenny, Ciao

  • Excerpt: "...trick. Well this is where the Philips Savvy comes into play. The first thing that is best to do is weigh up the PROS and CONS of the handset. PROS - * Quite a tough little phone - hard to damage * Reception Coverage * Battery life * Although the phone will cut out with a dead battery, you can usually switch it on quickly to see if you have recieved any SMS or phone calls! * Very reliable - It is likely to last a few years CONS - * ...
