The Windows Mobile-based Palm Treo 700wx offers some upgrades from the earlier 700w, including an upgrade to 64MB of RAM and the ability to use the 700wx as a laptop modem at fast EV-DO speeds. The Windows Mobile-based Palm Treo 700wx offers some upgrades from the earlier 700w, including an upgrade to 64MB of RAM and the ability to use the 700wx as a laptop modem at fast EV-DO speeds. Unfortunately, some of the same issues that plagued the 700w are still in play here. Like all Treos, the 700wx is fairly large and weighs a hefty 6.4 ounces. The QWERTY keyboard is easy to type on, and, when combined with the stylus and simple five-way navigator control, making calls and running applications is a pleasure. The 700wx ships with Microsoft's Messaging and Security Feature Pack, so users get direct push technology out of the box for wireless synchronization of e-mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks via Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. In addition, there's support for GoodLink and POP3 or IMAP e-mail accounts. The 700wx runs Windows Mobile 5 with the full Microsoft Office Mobile Suite and Windows Media Player 10 Mobile for music and video. Although there’s no WiFI, users can connect to the Web via Sprint's 3G EV-DO network, with data speeds topping out at about 2Mbps.

The Treo 700wx has integrated Bluetooth for use with wireless headsets and car kits and wireless synchronization with Bluetooth-enabled computers. The dual-band (CDMA 800/1900; EV-DO) call quality was good. Activating the speakerphone diminishes the audio quality a little bit. The Treo 700wx is rated for up to five hours of talk time and 15 days of standby time. Due to the improved memory, the 700wx was responsive when performing various tasks, even with multiple applications open. There are no problems transferring, viewing, or editing Office documents, and music and video playback were also smooth. The 700w includes Windows Media Player 10 Mobile, plus it supports WMA, WMV, and MP3 files, among others. The phone also comes equipped with a 1.3-megapixel camera, with a 2X zoom, three quality settings, and five resolutions. Image quality was decent but definitely not printworthy. In video mode, users get two quality settings and brightness controls. There's 128MB of memory (60MB is user accessible) onboard, but thanks to the SDIO/MMC expansion slot, users can add more memory. The Palm Treo 700wx is a middle-of-the road Palm for business users that combines multimedia features with some impressive work options.
