Cool gadget, mediocre phone

  • Excerpt: Since this phone/PDA can be had as a refurbished unit for under $100, I decided to give it a try.  The touch screen is what sold me versus some of the other PDA-type (Blackberry, Blackjack) phones available. As a PDA, this unit excells.  Touch screen & easy synch with my PC and MS Outlook contact information.  Easy to add new applications.  Expandable with an inexpensive, standard memory card. The phone quality is mediocre at best.

Great smartphone but a few flaws

  • Excerpt: I have had the Palm Treo 680 for more than a year now and I am in general pretty satisfied with it.  I like the bright screen and the easy to use phone function.  I like verfy much also the fact that is has losts of functions.  In my case, it is my third palm base PDA so I am very used to this system and have a lot info stored in it already so I didn't consider the windows or blacberry options. However, the email part of it is not so easy to use and not so fast.

Treo Locked to AT&T

Overstock
21 May 2010
  • Summary: I ordered this phone, thinking that it was unlocked as indicated in the description. I planned to use it overseas as well as here in the US. However, the phone I received, after returning one because it did not include the software CD, was locked to AT&T. The unlock code I received from AT&T would not unlock the phone; I believe it has been permanently locked to AT&T, which happens after 5 unsuccessful attempts at unlocking it.

Rurb vs new

Overstock
7 November 2009
  • Summary: The overall phone is good, however the battery life is very disappointing. You will need to factor in having car charger and additional ac chargers to the price of the phone, as you will always be looking for a place to charge up. The reburb is seemingly a good deal, however, many of the extras that come with a new phone is not included including the software and bonus software.

Palm treo 680

shane, REVIEW STREAM
13 April 2007
  • Excerpt: The Palm treo 680 is a cool device that comes with some good features but not many better ones than other Palms. It has a VGA camera, which is ok but newer Palms have better cameras and are cheaper. There is other ways to connect such as bluetooth and infrared that can also connect to other mobiles or a laptop or computer. If you like videos you can play them using the video player.

  • Summary: The Palm Treo 680 marketing suggests it is supposed to be a budget smartphone. In the US at $399 USD rrp + $135 value Mobile Music Pack (currently from Palm online) this could be the case. However, taking into account normal charges the phone should be at least $100-150 cheaper in Aust. Certainly not $799! & with no music bonus pack!! So I would wait until its more reasonably priced here; assuming you are looking for a low end smartphone!
  • Pros: *Compared with Treo 650 Slimmer design Larger memory (64MB) Support for up to 2GB SD cards
  • Cons: Low spec camera (VGA) Bluetooth 1.2 NOT 2.0!! (unbelievable) No WiFi Battery life needs improving.
