Its outer look is made of a sleek, glossy plastic with a curvy touch in the back and around the sides of the phone. It has been noted to be slightly smaller than the iPhone, when closed. Buttons on the left side are to be used for the volume, a 3.5mm headphone jack and also, ringer on/off switch is located on the top and at the back is where the speaker is found. Also found at the back is the 3 megapixel camera with LED flash. A Micro USB port is included for charging purposes or for transferring files. The Palm Pre is advertised to have a light sensor, proximity sensor, and accelerometer. Two versions of this phone will be released as of now. A Sprint-release with EV-DO Rev. A and 802.11b/g, includes Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and A2DP as the first release and the second release will feature 3G GSM in place of EV-DO.
New features added in this phone are firstly, the Synergy from Palm that allows for contacts and calendars to be pulled together from different sources without changing or integrating that data. Another feature is it has a rich search function which pulls up a dialog when you begin typing something on the keyboard. The browser included is Webkit based. It also has the copy-and-paste function just by a few gestures. It also has a new operating system that is said to be a first-timer under the name of webOs. The webOS is developed under Linux. It features a 3.1-inch touchscreen that covers the front of this phone. The screen resolution is 480 x 320 and a higher pixel density than the Apple’s device. The QWERTY keyboard is hidden underneath and can be accessed by just sliding it out. As it has a touchscreen display, there’s an area just below the screen that has been intended to be used for finger and thumb swipes. Near that area, there’s a button that has the appearance of a movable trackball and that button is said to be used to call up one of the "cards". This model uses “jelly keys” as similar to the ones featured on the Centro. Palm has included the Touchstone, a charger that can be used to hold the phone atop it for power. An AGPS chip is featured on the phone as a navigation software on-board is featured as well.
See lessConclusion A most excellent start from Palm with their first new Web OS smartphone. The hardware is attractive and the Pre looks great, feels great (albeit slippery and fingerprint-y) and is smaller than the iPhone and many other touch screen smartphones. The phone is intuitive, fun and generally responsive, though there are occasional minor slowdowns. The capacitive touch screen is not only beautiful but easy to control and the Pre has all the bells and whistles of a... Read more
The Palm Pre's sales package contents are similar to the Palm Treo Pro. The smartphone ships with an AC adapter, a Micro-USB cable, a wired-stereo headset, a soft-protective pouch, a recycling envelope, and reference material. The Palm Pre ships with a basic AC adapter, but you can also upgrade to the Touchstone Charging dock. Of course, there are additional accessories you can purchase for the Pre, including the Touchstone Charging Kit. The kit costs US$69.99 and... Read more
We’ve spent the last few days playing with the newly released Palm Pre and can’t seem to put it down. It's one of the first phones outside of Apple to offer true multi-touch, and perhaps the only phone to make Internet data the centerpiece. In a word, we would say we are impressed; but the Pre as a first-edition model is certainly not without its faults both in hardware and, to a lesser extent, software. Whether these faults are enough to dissuade customers from... Read more
Multitasking Palm Pre Brims With Power, Potential "Pre" is an odd name for a device that drops late into a corporate drama already loaded with twists, turns and setbacks. But if Palm is indicating that its new phone kicks off a new phase, maybe the Pre is aptly named after all. Shaped like a small bar of shower soap, the dense, ebony Pre matches many (if not all) of the features of its chief competitor, the iPhone. But in one key aspect, the Pre does the iPhone one... The Pre is the best phone we’ve ever used. That said, it’s still not perfect. Apps will bring it closer to perfection, and Palm/Sprint are targeting fall to be able to say “there’s an app for that.” Quite simply, it’s a brilliant phone and we appreciate the detail put into both the hardware and more importantly the software. It at least matches the iPhone, and often trumps it, in just about every aspect. We have of course not yet used the 3G S, but... Read more
Based on the previews and Palm's Official Presentation of the Palm Pre their is no doubt that the Palm Pre will set a very good platform for future Palm Devices and indeed for other devices purely in terms of simple usability. Being a Treo 600 & 680 user I have to say that Palm surely wins all the points when it comes to organizing your life in a simple format. For example being able to color code your appointment types and view it @ a glance is still a simple but... Read more
Pros - Explanation: - Keyboard. CNET doesn't like the keyboard, but I think it is just fine. My friends have the iphone and don't like the keyboard on the screen. - Multiple apps running at once - Internet capabilities are great - and I hear Flash will be supported come Oct - Very good image quality - crisp and bright - Size is just perfect - not too bulky - Touchstone charger (sold separately) charges very rapidly. I got a second one for the car, left the sticky backing... Read more
I love this phone! It is certainly the best I've owned so far. The expandable memory you speak of is news to me. Oh, wait, that's because it is a lie! Why don't you go back and correct your listed specifications for this model to reflect the truth? I wonder what other massive inaccuracies there are on this site? Disappointing! Read more
