Oppo R819 review: a slim, long-lasting smartphone that faces tough odds

21 November 2013
  • Summary: We know what you're thinking: The R819 doesn't stand a chance in such a heated smartphone market. And you're right, to some degree. In regions like North America and Europe, where it's relatively easy to buy a Nexus 5 for the same $349, there's little reason to give Oppo's phone a close look.
  • Pros: Long battery life, Good camera for its class, Slim design
  • Cons: Slower than its peers, Expensive for the features, Not expandable, 16GB is the only storage option

Oppo R819 review: Asian blade

GSM Arena
20 August 2013
  • Conclusion: A rising star in smartphones, Oppo's been dabbling in dual-SIM phones since late last year, but the R819 is its most convincing attempt. The phone can challenge the dual-SIM offerings from more prominent makers like Samsung, LG, HTC and Sony. The standout features of the Oppo R819 are the light build, excellent screen and good camera. The chipset handles Android 4.2.2 smoothly and Oppo's custom tweaks add a lot of useful stuff, even though they hardly help the looks.
  • Pros: Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support, 3G with HSPA, 4.7" 16M-color 720p IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 312ppi pixel density, Android OS v4.2.2 Jelly Bean with custom UI; Optional stock Android, Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, 1 GB RAM, PowerVR SGX544 GPU; Mediatek MT6589 chipset, 8 MP autofocus camera with LED flash and geo-tagging, HDR, 1080p video recording @ 30fps, continuous autofocus and stereo sound, 2 MP front-facing camera with 88° FoV, 1080p video recording,...
  • Cons: Relatively weak chipset, No microSD card slot, No LTE, No NFC, No TV-out, Non user-replaceable battery

Oppo R819 Review

Phone Arena
7 February 2006
  • Conclusion: Dual SIM handsets seemed as an afterthought until recently, that's why we are glad the Oppo R819 finally delivers this functionality in a well-designed midranger with good specs and acceptable performance. It sports compact chassis, good call quality, very bright HD display and fine camera, all for about $350 unsubsidized.
  • Pros: Dual SIM support in a light, compact design, Very bright HD display, Good pictures and video, Wide-angle front camera
  • Cons: Sluggish chipset, Only one of the SIM cards hooks in 3G mode
