Nokia’s N-Series is an odd amalgam of high-tech and low, melding some of the best smartphone technology with phones that haven’t changed much since the first proto-Finns heaved their bark boats onto the rocky beaches of Soumenlinna and began fashioning crude cellphones out of cork and shale. First things first, we have to admit Nokia N78 really has some serious performance to back up that specs sheet. The new and improved interface is real snappy and there are a few nice surprises in store. The time-tested smartphone and multimedia strengths are topped with a capable camera, great GPS receiver and even a FM transmitter. Our dilemma here is whether to throw another if only at you. All right, we'll just say that "can't have it all" is but a lame excuse. Read more
Nokia announced the N78 last February 2008 along with two other new phone models — the Nokia 6220 classic and the Nokia N96. It’s not yet available in the Philippines though I got a first hand review unit which I’ve been tinkering with for over two weeks now. Read more
As with all Nokia N series smartphones, the Nokia N78 impresses with its high-end features, especially the new geotagging tool, but we were slightly disappointed by the spotty call quality. Read more
With the proliferation of high spec Nokia NSeries and E series devices, it's becoming harder to choose among them. Here in the US, at least for AT&T subscribers, the list is shorter if you want 3G support and that narrows the choice. If you aren't a photo maven and don't crave the Nokia N95's 5 megapixel camera or the N95 8 gig's massive storage, the N78 is a logical alternative. Read more

W e have seen the N95 evolve and take on a new skin, some design alterations, and a load of memory. It did fairly well in both guises. Next we got a glimpse of the N96, touted as the next best thing. But in my opinion the next best thing to launch soon after the N95 was the N82 . I’ve been waiting to see what Nokia would do with a different version of this handset. I think the N78 is it, so here’s what I have to say. Read more
Truly, the appearance of the N-series handset has never been considered attractive. It is rather associated with the aerodynamic weight of the formula 1 fireballs, which is kind of scary, but obviously achieves the maximum results. “Chronic diseases” of N-series drift away with an enviable constancy from one model to another. This primarily concerns to the size and the weight. Read more

I got this phone one month ago and I'm very satisfied with it. It has wi-fi, 3g, 2g, bluetooth conectivity ready to go. The GPS unit, while not as fast and sensible like my Etrex Legend HCx, is faster than my Etrex Legend (no High-sensivity) and integrates very well with Nokia Maps and third part applications (Google Maps, Google Latitude, GPSed, etc). The phone itself is unique, people are always asking what it is. The keyboard is a little different, but I can text very fast on it using my nails since I got used to it. I feel like the camera quality isn't too bad. Maybe my phone just lags a little because I've dropped it more than I can count on my hand. Otherwise, it's a super phone. Read more

I purchased this phone for a birthday present and the end-user seems to enjoy it. I use a N95 myself so I'm a little biased when I say I'd never own an N78, but if you're an average cell phone person and you want a good phone, the N78 is fine. However, the Nokia N79 is now out and is much better. Read more

New does not always mean improved especially when it comes to mobile phones.
