The Nokia 6288 is a revised version of the 6280, although the differences aren’t huge. The phone is available in black and white, and there are some firmware improvements. The 6288 is a 3G slider with a 2 megapixel main camera, VGA subcamera, 240x320 pixel display, Bluetooth, multimedia support and microSD expandable memory. The top part of the slider is dominated by a 320 x 240-pixel screen, with the large navigation keys nestled snugly beneath. The lack of springiness in Nokia's slider - putting it loosely in a bag may cause the phone to slide up and unlock itself. It's best to store this model in a separate pocket, to prevent repeated accidental phone calls to the first person in the contacts list. Pushing up the slider reveals a businesslike grid-style keypad with rectangular buttons, and a tiny front-mounted VGA camera. The reverse side of the 6288 features a 2-megapixel camera. The placement of the lens and a camera shortcut key on the side of the phone allows a user to hold the device horizontally for taking photos.

The 6288 allows users to take the office on the road, with 3G data transfer speeds, triband compatibility, and support for IMAP, POP3 and SMTP e-mail. If there's an area the 6288 has focused its efforts on, it's video. In addition to the video calling that's now a standard 3G feature, the phone sports Nokia's video sharing application, which allows users to take pictures, transmit that video in real-time to a person on a call, and then end the video sharing session without needing to hang up. The 6288 can also handle video ringtones. The Nokia 6288 also includes dedicated camera and zoom buttons making it even more convenient to record a video or snap a picture of family and friends. Videos taken with the Nokia 6288 can be edited then sent via MMS and email, while Bluetooth technology lets users print pictures directly to any compatible picture printer. Although the Nokia 6288 boast innovative video calling features, and is serviceable in all the areas that count, it suffers from not being different enough from its predecessor, the 6280.
