See lessMotorola's Backflip Will Make You Come Unhinged It's about time Motorola did something crazy. The Cliq was predictably sleek. The Droid was pragmatically chunky. But AT&T's new Backflip is just ... odd. At first glance the touchscreen channels the Cliq, but flipping it over reveals an exposed QWERTY keyboard. The phone opens like a reverse clamshell, and once you swing the keyboard around through 180 degrees, it's facing you, resting beneath the screen. And, get this —... Read more
Unlike Verizon’s plunge into Android, AT&T has decided to go with a less than magnificent entourage with their dive. It’s not to say that the Motorola BACKFLIP might not be garnered as the flagship Android device we would’ve envisioned, but it’s uniqueness in various aspects meticulously elevates it to a higher platform for AT&T customers that have been Android-less. Although the Motorola BACKFLIP provides customers a glimpse into the power of Android, the... Read more
I always like seeing innovation in gadget design. Sometimes new designs catch on and sometimes they don't. While I'm not about to put money on Motorola Backflip's reverse-folding, rear-mounted trackpad concept catching fire in the wireless world, I actually think it's kind of cool and kind of handy after a near-week of testing. Over the long haul I'd have concerns about exposing my phone's QWERTY boards to the elements in (and out of) my pocket on a daily basis, but this... Read more
The Backflip has a very bold design and that may be all to it. The excellent build quality and unique form factor aren't enough to cover for the major flaws with the keyboard, dated Android 1.5, sluggish performance and miserable battery life. Fortunately, the device can be had for next to nothing on selected operator price plans. Read more
The bottom line: As AT&T's first Android phone, the Motorola Backflip offers a unique design but it's rather lackluster in the features and performance department. It's a decent choice if you're upgrading from a feature phone, but anyone looking for speed and power should look elsewhere. Read more
I think the Backflip makes a truly promising Android device for smartphone buyers who want something smaller than the Cliq or Android, but without giving up a QWERTY keyboard. Well I went out and bought 2 Motorola Backflip's the day they came out. One for me and one for my wife. I was eager to get on the Android bandwagon on AT&T's 3G network. Having had a T-Mobile version of the Nexus One I knew what the speed that 1Ghz processor provided. The Backflip is usable but it is no speed demon. The design is good, I absolutely love the reversed keyboard design which gives you a much larger keyboard. It took me a day or two to get used to a hardware... Read more

This is a good phone if your upgrading from a feature phone, but If you're looking for power, look elsewhere. The over-all design of the "unusual" form factor proves to be a success, because since the sliding mechanism is replaced by the hinge, you have more space for the keyboard. Since the form factor brings the phone to an (almost) acrobatic ability, there is something called the "Table-Top" mode which when the phone is cocked to a 90 - 45 degree angle, it displays an...
