Summary: Battery giant or performance dwarf? With the E430 Optimus L3 II, LG is introducing a smartphone to the market that is not only extremely cheap (99 Euros, ~$129) - it also promises to have an extremely long battery life. But what can the little squirt do besides "battery life"? That's a question for our review to answer.
Pros: Very long battery life, Low price, Handy size, Solid manufacturing, Attractive home screen, The solid, simple manufacturing of the low-cost device. You certainly don't have to feel ashamed of it in public.
Cons: Very small display, Weak resolution, Weak graphics performance, A few more pixels would have done the display good. A resolution of 240x320 pixels won't make the screen anyone's favorite.
Conclusion: With a price of around $140 off contract, the Optimus L3 II has fierce competition among low-end Androids, but not only. We honestly think the small screen in the L3 II takes a lot of the beauty of Android and that's one big reason against buying it. There are phones with slightly larger screens, but even a small increase in screen size makes a big difference for the user experience. The camera is also disappointing even for such an affordable device.
Summary: In my initial impressions review I mentioned that my benchmark for budget phones at the moment is the Nokia Lumia 520. This doesn’t hold a candle to it, I’m afraid. There are a couple of nice software features and it looks smarter, but the only real advantage the LG has is that it’s got the Play Store selection of apps that Windows phone still can’t compete with.
Excerpt: The LG L3 II is part of the second generation of the quirky L-Series smartphones. The range is characterised by its almost square screen. It’s certainly an individual look, and because/despite of this they have sold millions worldwide. LG have been kind enough to loan us one, and I’m going to attempt to find out why they’re so popular.
