Excerpt: The first in-depth LG KU990 Viewty review has reached us, courtesy of CNet. After spending the last year or so focusing on designer phones, such as the LG Chocolate and LG Shine, LG are repositioning themselves in the high-tech…
Excerpt: The KU990, better known as the LG Viewty, is LG's high-end touchscreen phone, which houses a large 3-inch LCD display and a xenon-flash assisted 5-megapixel camera. It's available in a variety of colours and metallic finishes, as well as the standard black. What we like It looks and feels like a 'proper' digital camera when you're taking pictures. Pictures taken on the Viewty in daylight look sharp and well balanced.
Excerpt: Last year, the handset market experienced the beginning of a new trend which can be tagged as "the race for 5 (Megapixel)". The main handset makers, ranked top 5 for their sales profit, namely Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and LG engaged in a battle for supremacy on the camera phones market. Collaboration between these handset manufacturers and some of the world renowned optic lenses producers became suddenly compulsory.
Pros: Besides the high quality camera and amazing Flash UI, I believe that a good point is the fact that LG learns from its previous failures (see KG920) and takes into consideration every feedback that it gets from the users. That will surely make future models better, more stable and faster.
Cons: Unfortunately, I would've expected more from the music part of the phone and was thinking that maybe an operating system would've improve functionality of the device. Also, battery drains pretty fast when phone is used only for talking. Otherwise I believe LG K990 Viewty is a well balanced device that will blow your mind the moment you start using it.
Conclusion: If you don’t need the power and flexibility of an iPhone or a N-series Nokia, the Viewty is a smackdown photo winner. Or, mmenmming grunnumm frunng, as Mickey would say.
Pros: Getting decent pictures from a cameraphone can be as tricky as getting coherent English sentences from Mickey Rourke. The good news is the Viewty serves up 5MP photos that are crisp and clear as a BBC news reader, and surprisingly sharp movies even using the super slo-mo 120fps setting. The lens is autofocus, with an image stabiliser that just about works. The large, haptic touchscreen copes well with text messages and emails, and overall the effortless navigation fee...
Cons: Wrestling with the little jog wheel around the lens can put greasy smears on your pictures – what happened to the lens cover, LG? And now you mention it, where exactly are we meant to put the dangling stylus? Don’t be fooled by LG’s claim that this is a ‘professional level cameraphone’ – it’s a step up from most mobile snappers but it struggles in low light and the flash needs more pop.
Excerpt: After being a relatively bashful brand in the mobile phone segment, LG has seemingly turned its focus on the lifestyle aspect. The Viewty is one such example of the company’s penchant for embellishing its devices. This phone looks very chic, probably in an attempt to take on some high-end lifestyle devices such as the iPhone and the N95.
Excerpt: The pocket-friendly 5 MP touchscreen marvel; the LG Viewty Lite is a new cheaper version of the original and expensive LG Viewty. The repackaged and renamed version, has a superb-quality 5 MP camera, but it does lack some basics so it may not win...
Conclusion: It did take a while for me to come around to the ideas behind the Viewty – but now as of Monday, with the device going back tomorrow, I’m almost sad to see it go. Its not smart, and in many ways is very limited compared to the phones I’m used to. But it just works. The touchscreen input – just works, the navigation – just works. It doesn’t do anything particularly special, but everything I really need it to do – it does.
Excerpt: LG has gone from a relatively budget oriented player in the mobile phone market to a company that is something of a fashion icon alongside its Korean counterpart Samsung. The Chocolate and Shine ranges have been very successful for LG, but what we're looking at today has more akin with the Prada phone. The latest model from LG is the KU990 or Viewty is it's also known as.
