Summary: The LG CU500 is one of the fastest phones we've ever tried, with swift downloads and impressive video streaming speeds. The feature set is impressive; the picture and audio quality are great; and the slim, attractive design is a bonus.
Pros: The LG CU500 is the first carrier-offered HSDPA phone in North America. It's a quad-band world phone with a great slim design, external music buttons, and a camera with a rotating lens. Features include a 1.3-megapixel camera, an audio player, a Micro SD memory card slot, a speakerphone, and access to exclusive content, courtesy of Cingular Video and Cingular Music.
Cons: The LG CU500 has two superskinny function buttons on the side that are difficult to press; we also didn't like that you have to remove the battery in order to get to the Micro SD card slot..
Excerpt: LG CU500: Today's cell phone market is loaded with cell phones similar to famous Razor by Motorola. The LG CU500 is one of them, but a matter of fact, LG CU500 easily beats its rivals as far as functionality, reliability and performance is concern.
Conclusion: If you love watching videos on your phone, this is a must have device! The 3G is zippy and the video playback is the best we’ve seen. The LG CU500 has a solid feature set for an affordably priced flip phone and it looks more costly than it is.
Pros: Pro: Great data speed, that you’ll enjoy whether browsing a web page or watching a full episode of Sex and the City (warning, the addictive HBO subscription costs $4.99/month). Good reception. It has some great entertainment features including the music player, MusicID, Billboard Mobile and MobiTV/Radio. The CU500 is among the best for stereo sound quality on a phone with awesome channel separation, rich and full sound and great volume. A2DP support enables you to pla...
Cons: Con: No real email support. The hinge rattles on our test unit. Battery on 3G is a sore point (put the phone in GSM mode when practical to reduce batter consumption).
Conclusion: The CU500 has a lot going for it, but in many ways could be so much better. Having perfect UMTS voice performance is great, but by lacking Bluetooth 2.0, users will be tied to HSDPA for full-speed when tethering. The phone has excellent physical build quality, only to be marred by poor paint quality. While carrying FOTA, the phone ships with shop-stopping Java bugs.
