Ages gracefully

ktlusty, CNET
25 December 2012
  • Summary: I have had this phone for over 2 years now, which speaks to how sturdy this bad boy is. I only use my phone for calls and texts (no data plan), so I can't speak to any of that. However, this phone has been faithful to me through the years for my basic talk/text needs.
  • Pros: Indestructible - I've dropped this phone several times and it hasn't changed the quality of calls that I've noticed, Slide out QWERTY keyboard - personal preference; I prefer the physical keyboard over virtual, Battery life - Lasts for DAYS
  • Cons: Text message layout - difficult to navigate between conversations and texts within a conversation, Camera has no flash (and therefore, no "flashlight"), Buttons are small, Call quality isn't great - seem to hear lots of background noise

Verizon's version of the Rumor, the LG Cosmos has some issues.

  • Excerpt: I bought this phone online as a free-with-contract phone (Verizon wireless) in mid-August, 2010. The signal strength and, subsequently, battery life are dismal; I only get 1-2 bars inside my urban house (which is located on top of a hill with few large trees). When I move from room to room, calls often break up.

The Cosmos doesn't require a media package...that's about it

  • Excerpt: I purchased my Cosmos after my Motorola "Star Trek" phone died. Overall I am happy with the phone, but it definitely has some drawbacks. The main reason I decided to purchase this phone was because it did not require an inflated media package, but contained a slide out keyboard for easy texting. The phone is adequate with a daily charge. I would say am an average phone user. I do text and talk, but not in excess.

Good phone, but nothing special about it

  • Excerpt: I got this phone as it was the best option of verizon's non data plan phones. LG is a good brand, and it is of decent and lasting quality. I chose this phone because I wanted a full keyboard, and this phone has a full slide out qwerty keyboard. One disadvantage is that I have noticed the slide is becoming weaker over time. I am afraid that it will give out before I am due for an upgrade. I do not like speaker button and the clear button on the front of the phone.

A little disappointed with this phone

  • Excerpt: I got this phone just because I could get it for free with the new every 2 Verizon plan. I had an Alias that I LOVED, but the Alias 2 wasn't free. I love the slide out keyboard for texting and the fact that you don't have to purchase an internet package with the phone, but I am a little disappointed with some features. There is no camcorder on the phone, and there is hardly any internal storage capacity.

Want to smash it!

  • Excerpt: For a starter phone or older person who needs general functionality and clear reception this would be fine, however if you are thinking of stepping down from a smart phone re-think it! I didn't use the data much on my smart phone so to save money me and my wife decided to downgrade to this phone and i have never been more irritated, it is consistently flashing ads and doing backups and the lock function is a nightmare! If you are texting the response time is S L O W...

I liked the Keyboard but this phone easily broke.

  • Summary: I really could care less if I get anouther Cosmos Verizon sent me the second generation and I dont like it I had it for about two months and the slider broke but that was because my friend, I would love to get a different kind of phone. Verizon said that I could get a different kind of phone if the second generation Cosmos broke under warenty and it did instead they are sending me the same type of phone and making me pay 150 dollars for it.
  • Pros: Good keyboard, can store a lot of pictures, and it's just a simple phone.
  • Cons: The first Cosmos the slider broke, and you couldn't read what was on. I had that phone for six months. The second Cosmos I have no clue what happened to it. After I turned it on for a bit it got hot and wouldn't turn on that was after four months.

  • Pros: good batery, life BRIGHT screen, I love the music, and good keyboard.
  • Cons: Easily breakable, and you have to buy an sd card for music.I hate the pop up adds and the buttons on the side break quit really easily. Also no video messaging.
