HTC Surround

MisterTickle, ReviewStream
10 September 2014
  • Excerpt: I got the HTC Surround as a gift actually. I already have an HTC phone, and I’m pretty satisfied with the brand. This phone, unlike the other one I have, is a prepaid unlocked phone. This means that I can use the phone with any cell phone service.

HTC Surround mobile phone

Brock, ReviewStream
10 September 2014
  • Excerpt: This is a review of the smart phone HTC surround, more precisely this is a Windows 7 smart phone and you can get it from AT&T. In the last two weeks interestingly we only had for testing or more exactly using Windows 7 phones, it looks like the winter …

this phone is bad news...

tommywomble, CNET
28 May 2012
  • Summary: The sound on phone is great, windows 7 is excellent, but this particular phone is wretched!!!!! I am a bit of a tech and electronics gadget geek, and this phone has given me more problems than the other twenty or so I've owned combined. Go windows 7, but pass this model by. Google the problems and see for yourself.
  • Pros: windows 7, touch screen, superior sound quality
  • Cons: too many glitches! even after factory reset Phone constantly reboots, battery life is horrible!had to buy 3 spares to carry around or it will die before you get home. Support is horrible also. HTC does not even list the surround on the help website!

This is the worst phone ever

combatmedic56, CNET
18 January 2012
  • Summary: Do not waste your time on this phone, I had to purchase a new phone because my 30day return policy ran out with best buy, Sorry got Mobilized and couldn't leave the post.. Both best Buy and At&T are not pro military, I still do not get my military discount from At&T. If you think of purchasing this phone take a two cans and a piece of string, the cans and string will cost you much less and be more reliable.
  • Pros: None: it wont work
  • Cons: Locks up all the time, Cant get the phone to disconnect from a call, Cant get the screen to forward.

A solid Windows phone experience

SidLiy, Phone Arena

  • Excerpt: The metal midsection, face plate, kickstand & the surround speakers adds a significant weight to the phone, but it looks good & feels solid in hand, the hardware specs are sufficient for a smooth & snappy Windows phone experience.

Windows Phone: Not The Best. Not The Worst.

AaronPierce, Phone Arena
19 July 2011
  • Excerpt: Had this phone for about 4 months. When I heard Windows was releasing a phone I thought the capibilities were going to be vast, but sadly they were not. I ended up starting up another line just to get the Motorola Atrix & get away from the phone. Definitely a phone for just "glance & go" people.
  • Pros: Great speakers, Kickstand for watching videos., Nicely built design
  • Cons: Drops calls frequently, Battery runs out fast., Laggy texting., Apps are very limited, No customiziation

Haven't recived the Phone yet, but Super Excited!

alexandra, Phone Arena
17 April 2011
  • Excerpt: I just recently ordered the HTC Surround from At&t as a upgrade from my outdated and nearly obselete LG Vu and may i just say that i am super-siced. I have been reading all types of reviews and critiques on this phone an i cannot wait until I have it in my hands. Ive been doing so much research on this phone im almost an expert on it. My surround is en-route to my house and should be there tomorrow or tuesday at the latest.
  • Pros: music-centric device, windows phone 7 layout, People Hub, HTC Hub, etc., Personalization options are spectacular, PC like Internet quality, Nothing like the LG Quatum or Samsung Focus as far as creativity goes, kickstand (ingenious), Zune Music Capability, Virtual Keyboards, 3.8" WVGA Screen
  • Cons: fragile touchscreen, No Super AMOLED Screen, Retina display isnt avalabile, No Gorilla Glass, NoDo (copy and paste) options arent avalabile yet, Utilization of abundant space is.... to be desired

Follow up: A breath of fresh air for smartphones

phil.rick, Phone Arena
18 March 2011
  • Excerpt: I feel that it is important to follow up on my original review (“A breath of fresh air for smartphones”) since I have had the phone for 5 months. I feel that the Start screen is so intuitive. It's very customizable and personal - you'll see that you can pin almost anything there. MarketPlace has grown 10-fold (or more!) since my last review. There are lots of useful apps that make use of the system interface and device features.
  • Pros: Windows Phone 7 interface, Separate camera button, Ease of use, Internet Explorer
  • Cons: Battery life, Fragile touchscreen

Awesome phone

Gtrain017, Phone Arena
31 January 2011
  • Excerpt: I love this phone, i thought it would be full of glitches since its new but its not to bad. the screen is unresponsive sometimes but very rarely. takes a second to dial a number after you tell it to call, and the app market crashes every once in a while.

HTC Surround is Amazing Smartphone for Mediaphiles!

AzraelPC, Phone Arena
26 November 2010
  • Excerpt: Ordered this phone last week and received it in mail Wednesday. Straight out of the box, it worked like a charm. Had absolutely zero issues setting anything up. If you have MS Exchange email for work (like me), you will need help from an IT admin, but aside from that, importing ANY other email is absolutely seamless (Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo, any ISP, etc).
  • Pros: ZUNE+XBL Integration, IE browsing is PC-like, Email integration is simple, Wifi setup is simple, virtual QWERTY is fantastic and can be done with only one thumb, Durable Build (doesn't feel cheap like Samsung Focus)
  • Cons: not a S-AMOLED, haven't gotten the surround sound working yet, Marketplace is in its fledgling state, but growing daily
