Android is impressive, and the G1 is a nice piece of hardware.  Still, we can’t help but feel that both Google and HTC could have done more for a launch device.  When we step back and look at the bigger picture the future is bright, very bright, but in this day and age we want it now.  Simple things like a video player, stereo Bluetooth and a 3.5mm headset jack are missing.  Overall the phone performs well though, and it is merely the first step in what we foresee... The T-Mobile is a great start for Google's first Android phone. While it might lack features like video recording, A2DP and a built-in video player, usability is top notch and the core functions work well: phone, web and basic email. The G1 isn't a good fit for business users given its lack of desktop and Exchange syncing and its Gmail, POP3 and IMAP-only email support. But for the casual phone user who wants a good touch interface and more application expandability than... Read more

The Android platform is a very powerful one with a lot of potential. It is therefore disappointing that between the time when T-Mobile launched this product as the G1 in the US and now, little improvement has been made. The main downsides of the Dream are its incomplete SMS features, lack of an onscreen keyboard and Exchange support. Those downsides are critical for a significant group of users and need to be addressed as soon as possible. Some may argue that the open... Read more

Some will ask flat-out, is Android better than iPhone? Some will yell at us for brining up that question (yes, we read your comments… all of them). The answer is two-fold. As a not-yet-released phone, the G1 and Android do not have the polish that Apple has been able to build with a two year lead time. But, that said, the G1 has the promise to beat the iPhone down the road. Like iPhone, Google has promised to continually improve Android, and HTC is in turn obligated to... Read more

The bottom line: While we're not in love with the design and would have liked some additional features, the real beauty of the T-Mobile G1 is the Google Android platform, as it has the potential to make smartphones more personal and powerful. That said, it's not quite there yet, so for now, the G1 is best suited for early adopters and gadget hounds, rather than consumers and business users. Read more

The Dream is a great phone already, but with OS updates that are due anytime soon, it will become greater still. One of the major missing features currently is an on-screen keyboard for quick sms, web browsing etc - the physical keyboard is quite handy for longer mails, but the OSK is sorely missed. The browser is great, though does not support Google Docs (which would have been a great feature in the absence of an Office application) Battery life is alright .. could be... Read more

Buy it if you want a nice low priced Android, with nice features with room to grow. I personally felt that the screen made it difficult to surf even just a few minutes,e-mail,news etc, the lack of 3.5mm jack not very helpful. But overall it has decent qualities that outnumber the negatives, if you are looking for a lower priced android OS. came in knowing no flash, and non standard jack, but i couldnt get used to it. went back to yes the iPhone. This is the first phone that I've had in 5 years that I've actually liked! First, it works well as a phone. I can hear on calls. Previous phones that I've had have not worked very well in that basic capacity. I have slight hearing loss, so for ... Read more
