Conclusion: The HTC Surround feels quite solid and is certainly a substantial device in the hand. The addition of the slide out speaker feels mostly useless and falls heavily in the novelty category, and while it doesn’t offer impressive audio quality, at least it doesn’t detract from the phone that much. I would have preferred if HTC would have scrapped the sliding speaker and made the phone more solid (no moving sections) and thinner, but that’s pretty much what the HTC HD7 is.
Excerpt: The cell phone as we know it is dead. At least that is what the new wave of phones and messaging devices are telling us. Over the last few weeks I had the chance to play around with the new HTC 7 Surround Windows phone. To be honest it really is way more than a normal cell phone could ever want to be. The phone is available on the TELUS network here in western Canada under a few different plans.
Conclusion: When compared to the other Windows Phone 7 devices, the HTC 7 Surround doesn’t shine. And when you broaden the choices to Apple and Android, my view is that the HTC 7 will be lost in the crowd. The HTC 7's speaker bar delivers better but not much better sound, and it adds considerable weight and bulk to the device. And don't most people use headphones, anyway?
AT&T's HTC 7 Surround Windows Phone 7 smartphone review
20 October 2010
Summary: It's finally here. Windows Phone 7, Microsoft's latest mobile operating system has arrived and it's loaded on a handful of devices, including the HTC 7 Surround. The HTC 7 Surround is an excellent device that's going to attract casual smartphone owners and heavy multimedia users alike.
Pros: Great text input, decent battery life, kickstand, good call quality and data rates
Cons: No 3rd party app multi-tasking or copy/paste, few applications available, no task switcher, no USB mass storage, no microSD card slot
Conclusion: The other multimedia highlights of mobile telephony include music and video players. These media players of HTC 7 Surround are capable of playing diverse file formats. The music player can play MP3/ WAV/ WMA/ eAAC+ files; while the video player can play MP4/ WMV/ H.264/ H.263 files. Overall, the features of HTC 7 Surround seem to be good, but not excellent.
