Unboxing and First Impressions: BlackBerry Style 9670 (Boost Mobile)

PhoneNews
30 August 2011
  • Excerpt: We were kindly provided a Boost BlackBerry Style for review by Boost Mobile’s PR agency this month and I’ve been using it as my primary phone instead of my E71. My full review won’t go up until this weekend, but here are a few things that I’ve been able to take away from using the phone for a couple weeks. There’s more I could touch on, but I’ll leave the bigger stuff for this weekend.

BlackBerry Style 9670 Review

Digitaltrends
14 February 2011
  • Conclusion: If you’re looking for a pocket computer that will do your taxes , play games that look like they belong on a PSP and surf the Web as easily as notebook computer, look elsewhere. Despite an extra layer of polish in BlackBerry OS 6, the Style is not ready to compete with the latest crop of iOs and Android superphones as a do-it-all overachiever. But with a unique clamshell design, full physical QWERTY keyboard and a $50 price tag on Sprint, it doesn’t have to.
  • Pros: Excellent voice quality, Practical, compact clamshell design, Full QWERTY keyboard, Respectable 5-megapixel camera, Speedy OS navigation, Sharp, bright interior and exterior screens, Affordable
  • Cons: Poor camera placement, Spotty Wi-Fi reception, Only shoots VGA video, Slow, clumsy browser, So-so battery life

RIM BlackBerry Style 9670 (Boost Mobile)

PC Magazine
5 January 2011
  • Conclusion: As Research In Motion's lineup continues to age, the BlackBerry Style may be the nicest way yet to enjoy the platform; we're particularly fond of Boost Mobile's inexpensive plan prices.
  • Pros: Nifty flip form factor. Great voice quality. Strong reception. Cheaper plan prices than with the Sprint version.
  • Cons: Short battery life. Pitiful app store. Few decent apps available.

BlackBerry Style 9670 Review

Chip Chick
14 December 2010
  • Excerpt: In a market where touchscreen smartphones have more or less taken over, the new BlackBerry Style 9670 for Sprint is quite the breath of fresh...
  • Pros: Priced at as little as $79 with a new contract, the, for, is certainly priced right to compete with other budget smartphones. The Style’s flip form-factor is quite the charmer, the phone offers great call quality, and the purple option should especially appeal to girly girls. This Style 9670 can be the right fit for someone who likes to standout from the norm. That said we are disappointed by the awkward positioning and quality of the device’s camera, its web browsing...

BlackBerry Style 9670 (Sprint)

PC Magazine
13 December 2010
  • Conclusion: The BlackBerry Style is a terrific flip messaging phone for Sprint, though it doesn't offer the app selection of other top smartphone platforms.
  • Pros: Great build quality. BlackBerry 6 OS. Excellent voice quality.
  • Cons: External screen doesn't do enough. Weak selection of apps. Keyboard is a bit flat for a BlackBerry.

BlackBerry Style 9670 (Sprint) review - OS 6 meets the flip phone

MobileBurn
2 December 2010
  • Summary: The BlackBerry Style 9670 is Sprint's first BlackBerry, and the second in the United States (the Torch 9800 on AT&T was the first), to run Research In Motion's new BlackBerry 6 operating system. It also features a unique clamshell form factor that packs in a full QWERTY keyboard. On Sprint, it will compete directly with the BlackBerry Bold 9650, although that phone offers the older BlackBerry 5 operating system.
  • Pros: Solid industrial design, good call quality, decent battery life
  • Cons: Low resolution display, awkward while taking pictures, so-so keyboard

  • Conclusion: If you’d like a BlackBerry that can survive even tight jeans pockets, or wish to have a full QWERTY BlackBerry that’s in a clamshell form, the BlackBerry Style is just the thing. Hiding underneath that pretty flip there’s a fast BlackBerry smartphone with a great screen, awesome audio, a very nice camera and the full BlackBerry messaging and app experience. Is the new OS BlackBerry 6 revolutionary or will the new web browser blow your mind? No.
