Summary: I had purchased this phone because I shattered my iPhone. Grant it, I should have known a phone from the early 2000's was going to run much different than my iPhone. But I forgot how bad these things suck. Such bad speed and couldn't get any app's to work. I went back to the broken iPhone. It's a good back up phone. And I get it for a spare. But wow, it's just old school.
Summary: this phone is not really good if you can find a better choice i advice you to this phone is really old technology the menu is not really good the trackball is not very responsive and the dialing pad is not very convenient to use so all and all if you can find a better phone for your choice go with it instead of this one.
Excerpt: I was SSSOOO excited to get my new blackberry pearl 4 months ago. At first, so far so good, but give it a while. As a school teacher, I am not able to always answer my phone. I rely on my missed call log, text, etc. in case I miss the phone. Even after purchasing a new media card (twice, 5GB ($60) and 1GB ($35), having my phone replaced after the speaker stopped working, while I was out of town, and a number of other "memory" problems, I am just NOT satisfied.
Excerpt: I've had nothing but trouble with this phone. For the most part it works fine, but I have to remove the battery at least once a day for it to do what I need it do. I've had numerous lock ups, or the phone goes dark. But the worst of the problems relates to bluetooth voice dialing. It just doesn't work. Or it does, then it doesn't until I take out the battery.
Excerpt: PRO + nice fast internet connection + feels nice in the hand + many advanced features work on it, such as Jott and m.yahoo.com/voice. wls.live.com doesn't, but it seems not to be as useful. , and many accessories such as silicone case are available. CON - Keyboard layout is too weird. Slower than QWERTY, but faster than 12-key. Maybe this is my lack of reading the documentation completely, but I found it difficult to dial numbers like "800 FREE 411" or "800 FLO WERS".
Excerpt: The phone aspects are great: small size, camera, video, quick internet, save messages and internet pages options. If what you want is a BlackBerry, but don't care if you can actually sync it to your Outlook for calendar management (the whole reason I use a BlackBerry), than it is a good choice.
Excerpt: To those in the market for a new phone, I wouldn't advise to puchase this phone. I have Verizon, and the service on the phone is sub-par compared to my previous phones. PROS: -Good features to help keep a person organized. -Loud speakerphone -Large display -Easy E-mail use Cons: -Poor reception -Phone has to be restarted daily -Trackball goes out quickly -Ringer isn't very loud Overall, I would say that the Pearl is a very low entry level blackberry.
Excerpt: I recently purchased the Blackberry Pearl 8130 about 2 weeks ago. I was so excited for it to come out with my carrier ( U.S. Cellular ) because usually the dont carry phones that are this sharp. I loved that look of it and was very pleased to find they had it in my favorite color. So, off I got to purchase my dream phone. Biiiiig mistake. First day I found it very hard to navigate. The "pearl" navigating is completely annoying.
Excerpt: This is my second pearl in a month. Everything on this phone took a while to get used to, but I learned to love it! After a week with my first one, I opened my inbox and all of my messages were gone. After calling Verizon they explained to me that this is a "Blackberry Memory Glitch" and there was no patch for it. All of my call log and messages were gone, unable to retrieve and my text messaging was now disabled. They are not sure when my text messaging will be back.
