Conclusion: The iPhone 4S may not have a radically brand new design or some of the features that other top-tier smartphones do these days (such as a larger screen or 4G connectivity), but offers what is arguably the best smartphone experience of any device on the market today. It improves upon the massively successful iPhone 4, and takes the crown as the best smartphone you can get.
Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 4S – Apple’s flagship is living its last days
23 May 2012
Conclusion: The iPhone 4S is already on the market, and it will be around for another year or so as the second model in the lineup when the iPhone 5 is released. Samsung’s Galaxy S3 will be released at the end of spring, and with the pricing being similar for both phones, it definitely makes more sense to get the S3 than the 4S, unless you really can’t find a slightly larger pocket or have very small hands.
Droid 4 vs the iPhone 4S – is the hardware keyboard enough to choose Motorola over Apple?
6 April 2012
Conclusion: Both the iPhone 4S and Droid 4 are available on sale right now, for similar pricing – if I had to choose, I’d go with the Droid 4, but only because of the more flexible and customizable OS and the awesome QWERTY keyboard – if that’s not an issue for you, the iPhone 4S has a better design and is just as good hardware wise, plus it will have a better resale value when the iPhone 5 is released this fall.
Conclusion: Ratings breakdown. I deducted 2 points from the design because it was borrowed from the iPhone 4S. The exclusive dual-antenna design is a high light, but ultimately it was a necessary fix. I deducted 2 points for the Hardware despite the improved performance because there’s a handful of quad-core smartphones announced and dozens more on the way.
Nokia Lumia 900 vs Apple iPhone 4S – which one should you go with if you want a powerful, yet easy to use phone?
6 March 2012
Conclusion: If you want a phone that’s easy and intuitive to use, but don’t want to get the iPhone for any reason, the Nokia Lumia 900 is a perfect alternative – Windows Phone 7 is much simpler than Android and yet it’s very sleek and has pretty much all of the popular apps that other platforms have – there’s no reason not to go with it.
Conclusion: With the iPhone 4, Apple had one of the best mobile phones on the market and the iPhone 4S improves on that. It’s fast, with one of the best screens on the market and an excellent camera. One of the great things about Apple products, is their simplicity and iOS 5 makes things even better. Although there's not enough here to upgrade from an iPhone 4, it's still the best Apple phone has released which we have to give it five stars, but we do feel it's not perfect.
Pros: One of the best screens on a smartphone, Fantastic build, Thousands of apps, Improved camera, Faster processor, iCloud
Cons: Screen feels a little small, iMessage quirks, Siri not fully featured, Camera lacks features
Summary: Reviewing the iPhone 4S is in many ways a lot like reviewing the original iPhone 4, except that it's not. The device, which was just announced at a special event on Apple's campus, is very much the same phone the company released in June of 2010 — but it's also something completely new. While much of that sameness comes from an identical physical appearance, and nearly identical specs (in some places), there's much that's fresh here.
Pros: Camera is stunning, Retina Display is still best in class, Siri software is incredibly cool and surprisingly useful
Cons: iOS is beginning to show its age, Improved 3G speeds don’t seem very improved, especially compared to LTE devices, Glass and metal design is beautiful, but easy to shatter
Conclusion: That said, if you're looking to upgrade your iPhone, or swapping from a different handset, the Apple iPhone 4S is a fantastic smartphone. Stylish, well made, easy to use and packed with features, there's loads to like.
Pros: On the face of it, the Apple iPhone 4S looks identical to the Apple iPhone 4. That's no bad thing, as even a year on, it's still one of the nicest looking smartphones on the market. It also offers the best quality, proving tactile and strong. The inclusion of Siri is one of the biggest differentiators between the Apple iPhone 4S and the Apple iPhone 4. A personal assistant, Siri takes voice activation to the next level. You'll be able to carry out virtually any of the...
Cons: If you don't think you'd use Siri, you'd be just as well sticking to the Apple iPhone 4 over the iPhone 4S. Sure, the camera is better, but there's nothing wrong with the iPhone 4's 5-megapixel snapper. The iPhone 4S's ancestor also manages perfectly well when it comes to speed and responses, and you can download iOS 5 for your current iPhone.
Summary: The iPhone 4S isn't the king of cell phones, but it's part of the royal family nonetheless. Even without 4G and a giant screen, this phone's smart(ass) voice assistant, Siri, the benefits of iOS 5, and its spectacular camera make it a top choice for anyone ready to upgrade.
Pros: Apple's iPhone 4S has a faster processor and an upgraded camera, all the benefits of iOS 5, and a useful and immensely fun voice assistant. Call quality on the Sprint model is admirable, and the data speeds, while certainly not 4G, get the job done.
