Summary: There were no problems with connection quality in the engineering prototype. The volume of the speaker and loudspeaker is from average to above average, while the vibro is weak and I often missed it. The smartphone will become available soon for around $325 (it has not been finalized yet). E130 is a controversial smartphone: it has a not universally appealing design, imperfect buttons layout, a mediocre screen and outdated Android 1.6.
Summary: Acer probably had this phone down to be sold to business users, but there's none of the consistency of a BlackBerry. However, the appeal of Android could make this a great phone for message-hungry kids into apps
Pros: Excellent battery life and a huge choice of apps and games. Free instant email for Google Mail users
Cons: Small screen and low resolution, with poor quality camera. Avoid the white model that clashes with the white illumination
Summary: The Acer beTouch E130 is really a bit of a jack of all trades - not quite being the business device that the BlackBerry Bold is (or boasting such a bright screen), nor being as simple to use as other Android devices. It does look good, though.
Conclusion: It’s nice to see a smartphone with a BlackBerry form-factor that runs on Android, to give heavy texters and emailers some more choice, but with the lower-resolution display and Android 1.6, there are many limitations. The keyboard also needs a light sensor to stop the white keys illuminating in white and making the characters almost invisible.
