Summary: tested this one versus older Maratz 5001 CD player. i couldnt believe my ears. this one sounds super clear, DYNAMIC and colorful. why have I used Marantz before? everything sounds better with Yamaha, you experience different music. tested with Yamaha A-S700 amplifier. music - thrash metal, death metal, hardcore.
Summary: I spent more money than I initally planed but for me it was worth it. Yamaha has done a great job with this SACD player CD-S1000BL and when you hear it play you will know instantly that there is something very different about this player. The first unit I ordered was defective but Amazon provided flawless customer service in its replacement. I would like to note that such a level of commitment to service is rare.
Summary: CD: 4 out of 5 stars because the unit did not meet the high expectations placed on it by other reviewers and by the product description. So, right out of the box this is a supremely gratifying purchase. Solid, heavy, superb build quality. Wow! Satisfaction sank to disappointment when I started playing discs: Loud disc drive can be heard during quiet passages; slow to initialize disc reading; sonics (spacial and dynamics) were really below par for a product so hyped!
Pros: Great CD player with solid quality feel and nice simple remote. Lightening fast track selection. Fit and finish are superb. Excellent dynamics in CD and SACD. Not quite as satisfying to listen to or live with as the NAD C565BEE player (my only other reference), but a really beauty to look at!
Cons: Noisy disc drive and slow disc initialization. Finicky drive can play only perfect discs - drive is very noisy if disc is not perfectly flat or hole is not exactly centered. Hence, drive can at times sound like a cloths washer on spin cycle with imperfect discs. Care is required to place the CD in the drawer exactly, otherwise the slim drawer slot could cause a loading disaster. Break-in required to improve sound!. Nothing special about the SACD capability except for ...
Summary: This player is pretty spendy. But if you love good sound from favorite cds, there is nothing finer. Buy it and you'll become a believer. My old cd player was hardly a cheap one--but this one blows it out of the water.
Pros: Works beautifully in every way. Old world craftsmanship to boot. Simply beautifully made.
Cons: Does not match yamaha components design wise.
Summary: I was really amazed by the clarity of the sound. You can distinct the different instruments and voices, just like if it were alive. I am very please with it, and thinks it was worth the investment. In the past I had a Onkyo, Denon, and they were supposed the top of the line, but no comparison.

Summary: I have owned this product for 2 years and I cannot say enough good things about the Yamaha CD-S1000. In my system it is paired with an A-S2000 and ATC SCM40 speakers. In the time I have owned this player after upgrading from the CD-S700, It has never failed to amaze me with its revealing and natural sound, deep sound stage and unparalleled build quality.
Just an Outstanding Piece of Equipment from Yamaha!

Summary: This is my first SACD player but not my first Yahama product which carries a great name in the music and audio world! First thing out of the box you notice is the sturdy build quality of this unit, it is a gorgeous piece with wood side panels, sort of an old 70's retro, throwback style that I love. The single disc loader is dead silent, uses some sort of mesh screen instead of gears.
Summary: The Yamaha Super Audio CD player CD-S1000 is an elegantly styled, solid, well built player which weighs in at an impressive 31 pounds. Interestingly that's the very weight of the CD player it replaces in my system, the excellent Yamaha CDX 1100 of 1987 vintage. In fact it was the weight, of all things, that drew my attention to the CD-S1000, in this day of inexpensive, feather-light plastic players of all kinds.
Summary: Wonderful box. Very solid feel, fantastic sound. Does a wonderful job with ordinary CDs but truly extraordinary sound when playing super audio. Great presence, great texture, great image definition.
