Summary: I bought the DR-1 to record from my Alesis Multimix 8 FW as a backup the the firewire recordings. In that capacity it has been perfect. Sound recorded through the line in mini jack is 100% clean. Transferring the files is easy. Good rechargeable battery. Now for the bad stuff. When I opened the box, the first thing I noticed was the cheap, lightweight feel. The buttons feel cheap, the wheel that you use to navigate menus feels cheap, everything feels cheap.
Pros: Easy File Transfer, Good assortment of ports, Long Battery Life
Cons: Cheap Feel, Confusing Menu System, I did't like the mics
Summary: I am a radio reporter who bought this primarily to replace my old Sharp minidisc, but I'm also in a garage band that likes to record itself. For roughly the price of a Zoom H2 it's obviously a better, more versatile unit. The internal mics, as I suspected, work fine for poaching live amplified music, & not much else - they are useless for interviewing. With the external inputs - I've tried my AT822 stereo mic in the Mic 1, & my AT shotgun mic in Mic 2.
