The Onkyo DX-C390 is a 6-disc capacity compact disc player with a carousel changer. It is compatible with audio CDs, MP3 CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs. The player has a frequency response of 5Hz to 20kHz. It has a dynamic range of 96dB, a Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio of 96dB, and a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of 0.005 %.

The player measures 17.1 x 5.2 x 17.6 inches and weighs 15.2 pounds. It is available in black and silver and has a brushed hairline aluminum front panel. The player also features a built-in fluorescent display that shows playback tracks and times as well as icons for other functions in use. The Onkyo DX-C390 also has Remote Interactive (RI) Remote Control Capability.

The DX-C390 features premium digital-to-analog converters as it is equipped with Vector Quantizer Audio (VQA) Conversion Technology and has 192 kHz 24-Bit Audio digital to analog converters. It also comes with Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (VLSC) which reduces digital noise to provide quality sound.

Some of the playback features of the Onkyo DX-C390 include 6 repeat modes including entire disc, all discs, random tracks, programmed tracks, and random. It has several playback modes including program play, random play, and shuffle. It can also change up to 5 discs while one is playing. Apart from these, it is equipped with next selection function as well as 40-track programming.

The DX-C390 has two digital outputs. These include one Digital Optical Out and one Digital Coaxial Out. It does not support the use of headphones or microphones.
