Summary: Only buy this if you are going to listen in stereo 2.0 or if you are going to listen with headphones like myself this is for you. Super Audio CD (SACD) is way better than vinyl no matter what you read on wikipedia, mind you the source recording and audio engineering have to be great. If you don't me believe compare the technical specifications. What specifications don't measure is audio detail. Believe me the audio detail of SACD blows that of vinyl out of the water.
Summary: My Sony 5-disc changer that I bought in 1989 finally expired, and I had to find a replacement. I bought this Marantz because I read a good review in Stereophile that said it delivered much more than one might expect from the price. I hesitated briefly because there were some reviews here that warned that it was cheaply constructed. I'm happy that I ignored those reviews because I am very pleased with it.
Summary: I purchased this because I was tired of having less expensive CD players stop working due to a bad motor. The unit is solid and does have superior electronics in both the power supply and digital to analog conversion. It plays SACD's flawlessly and detects the type of CD automatically. The controls are excellent and the mechanisms are smooth. My only complaint would be to have a five disc version but that is a relatively minor ask.
Summary: Never knew CD (no SACD's yet) could sound so good. Clean powerful and just sounds right. Solid like a tank. Cant speak on all the features but will play any CD and get close to vinyl quality sound. Not overly bright but relaxed sound non fatiguing. This is all before break in. Cheap RCA cables supplied are to be thrown out replaced with Monster cable M series and was blown away by the difference. No coloration or digital distortion.

Summary: Marantz fortunately continues to manufacture SACD/CD players against the tide of large storage digital files, and I do not mean inferior .mp3 files. High resolution flac is forthcoming, with some formats going beyond CD disc storage. I expect CDs will persist because of the inclusion of notes, artwork, and photography that enhance the enjoyment and importance of the albums.
Summary: This is a very well built cd player for the money. I got this cd player for $700.00 dollars new out of box, with warranty. Was using the marantz CD-6004 player, this was a nice upgrade from that. Really like that marantz cd signature sound and matches well with my other equipment and speaker wire and Interconnects also. Very pleased overall.

Summary: 4.5 Stars! The DAC in this unit is as good as the reference grade Benchmark DAC1. I have done extensive comparisons between the two with output levels matched and I couldn't tell the difference between the two both on optical/coax. I have tried many other DACs that couldn't touch the Benchmark's performance but this one did. Amazingly resolving and non fatiguing DAC. Benchmark as headphone amp is tiny bit better than the head phone amp on the Marantz.
Summary: back in march i became the proud owner of a marantz sa8004 sacd player. you may have heard some of the professional reviewers rave about some new product that preforms as well as cd players coasting thousands more, well in this case if anyone of those pro,s say it about this unit there right. this player is smooth, and detailed.
sent item as described. Just don't be foolish and expect a full warranty

Summary: The Marantz SA8004 works beautifully. I bought a refurb of Ebay and the sound beats everything including my Rega Apollo. It also has an easily accesible USB dac and optical and coaxial input. The dac can also process your home theater audio. What a product!
Summary: It works as expected and works very well. Although I was thinking there will be a significant difference between sound of iPod and this one in headphones. Not really, almost same for my ears. Tested on Sennheiser HD265. Of course sound coming to loudspeakers is impressive :) Although I don't have much to compare, latest hifi system I had was Technics SL-PG470 + Technics SU-V300 (I think) back in mid '90s. Since then I had only iPod docks.
