Summary: First off this player is dead quiet! I was really expecting a little more in terms of openess since my last cdp purchase over 10 years ago. (Tjoeb 4000, which is a marantz and sounds a bit more open) This is a warm sounding player, not bright or peppy. Very natural sound to it. On piano discs it is the bomb.Being able to hook up a Ipod to it is nice but it sounds a little hard, discs are nicer. The SACD thing I will never get, I have redbook discs that sound better.
Summary: I purchased this because I was tired of having less expensive CD players stop working due to a bad motor. The unit is solid and does have superior electronics in both the power supply and digital to analog conversion. It plays SACD's flawlessly and detects the type of CD automatically. The controls are excellent and the mechanisms are smooth. My only complaint would be to have a five disc version but that is a relatively minor ask.
Summary: I have only been using it about a month. So far, it's performed flawlessly. No problems, seems a very competent system component. The only reason I gave it four stars rather than five is its signage: on the faceplate, everything is printed in a very dark grey, and of course the Player is all black. Plus the words are quite small, All this means it is very hard to read which button is for what.
Summary: Never knew CD (no SACD's yet) could sound so good. Clean powerful and just sounds right. Solid like a tank. Cant speak on all the features but will play any CD and get close to vinyl quality sound. Not overly bright but relaxed sound non fatiguing. This is all before break in. Cheap RCA cables supplied are to be thrown out replaced with Monster cable M series and was blown away by the difference. No coloration or digital distortion.

Summary: Marantz fortunately continues to manufacture SACD/CD players against the tide of large storage digital files, and I do not mean inferior .mp3 files. High resolution flac is forthcoming, with some formats going beyond CD disc storage. I expect CDs will persist because of the inclusion of notes, artwork, and photography that enhance the enjoyment and importance of the albums.
Summary: The audio quality of this unit is clearly better than any other that I have had. It is quiet to the extreme (mechanically). I love listening to it both as an SACD and CD player. It has never failed to play any CD that I have made in .wav or mp3 format. It plays well from the USB ports both front and rear. The audio from a computer when listening to a radio station website seems to be as good as I could expect.
Summary: I really like my Marantz SA 8004 sacd player. Funny, I read some of the less enthusiastic reviews, then read the one from the Odyssey amp owner. Viola. He feels the same as me. Guess what, I own an Odyssey stratus extreme amp. Hmm, either the player matches well with the amp or some of the other reviewers equipment may not be up to snuff? Possibly I don't know what I'm talking about too, I guess? But, my ears say I do.
Summary: This is a very well built cd player for the money. I got this cd player for $700.00 dollars new out of box, with warranty. Was using the marantz CD-6004 player, this was a nice upgrade from that. Really like that marantz cd signature sound and matches well with my other equipment and speaker wire and Interconnects also. Very pleased overall.
Summary: Model year is a 2012 SA8004 SACD. I had it for two weeks and it's already back to Marantz. Errors when reading disc. When it did, I found the SA8004SACD to be lacking in clarity and definition. Would not recommend. Marantz is sending me a new unit which I will sell before opening the box. I wish I could have heard it before I purchased it, however no dealers in my area had one on display. Now I know why.

Summary: 4.5 Stars! The DAC in this unit is as good as the reference grade Benchmark DAC1. I have done extensive comparisons between the two with output levels matched and I couldn't tell the difference between the two both on optical/coax. I have tried many other DACs that couldn't touch the Benchmark's performance but this one did. Amazingly resolving and non fatiguing DAC. Benchmark as headphone amp is tiny bit better than the head phone amp on the Marantz.
