Summary: 2/20/15...... editing this review, have had the cd player 5 days now. cds are now playing 1st track without kicking player off, thats wonderful news for me. the bass is now starting to come around as well, i want to be as fair as i can to marantz , i should have held off till now or later to write a review. the sound of the cds now equal the sound through its usb port being driven by a flash drive.
cd6005 = poor sound stage / ambience, lacking top end clarity and detail

Summary: A good CD player should sound open, airy, detailed. This cd6005 definitely not. If you have good speakers and amp, don't buy this CD player. It will bring everything down. Although the bass is punchy and clear, there is a hike in the upper bass range that makes the sound a bit muddy. Vocals can seem a bit forward on some tracks. The top end is lacking clarity and if you boost the treble on your amp, the sound becomes sibilant.
Summary: bought this cd player after reading reviews on what Hi-Fi and after having owned a marantz cd player before for about 20 years. Very disappointed with player.if your cd's are less than perfect don't bother! it will skip or freeze with the slightest defect. have now purchased a Cambridge audio player and am more than happy with it as is in my opinion it is a far better machine.
Summary: Bought this from Amazon Warehouse based on the What Hifi reviews - excellent sound quality - 3 dimensional, involving, exciting performance - for considerably less than the standard price and was majorly impressed until 7 months after purchase, it started having problems reading discs and now is refusing to play any discs (same issue I had with a previous Marantz award winning cd player 20-odd years ago).
Summary: I don't like this CD player because it skip's, a lot. On every CD that I put into that machine, it skips. Not just once or twice (which would still be bad) but sometimes on darn near every tune. I tried cleaning CD's before I played them.but the skipping continued. I now am unable to use my new CD player at all. I do not own any mp3 files so I maybe should not have bought this player, but I like Marantz products. Hopefully I will hear back from you soon.
Summary: my friend bought this cd player and i would say its ok for background music but for around the same price you can get a used marantz cd-17 ki cd player £1300 when bought new and the sound is night & day i wish people would stop saying high-end for budget players, and i also just bought a Cyrus cd-6s for well under £200 also used and it sounds better than anything you can buy for around £1000, so i would say if you like your music go ahead and spend a £1000+ or go buy...
