Good product, great company

Ryan G., Newegg
2 February 2015
  • Summary: About 3 months after I purchased this unit, I noticed that it wasn't reading my phone correctly when I plugged it in. It turns out that one of the pins in the USB port bent. At this point I had barely used that port (probably only like 10 times as I usually just left in whatever was plugged in), but...
  • Pros: -Much faster than the USB 2.0 reader this replaced in my machine -Has a USB port on the front -Uses motherboard USB 3.0 connector (instead of having to route a USB 3.0 Type A connector to an existing USB 3.0 port like some card readers) -Very clean design that doesn't have giant branding logos on...
  • Cons: -Build quality isn't that great, though not bad enough to dock an egg. I've had two of these units now (see Other thoughts) and the card slots aren't quite flush with the openings for them and the USB port feels fragile/cheaply assembled. When it works, it works well. It just feels like you need ...

Works and is inexpensive

SAMUEL L., Newegg
27 May 2014
  • Summary: I don't know if it is my USB 3.0 card or this unit, but the USB 3.0 port doesn't seem to like connecting to certain devices. Any USB 3.0 device works fine, but most USB 2.0 devices I plug in to it don't show up for some reason.
  • Pros: Every slot seems to work without problems. I have an SD card plugged in to it almost constantly and have yet to run in to problems with this device. USB 3.0 speeds make this REALLY fast for R/W speeds. Info reads and writes as fast as a solid-state hard disc drive connectd via SATA. Front USB 3.0...
  • Cons: I guess I wish the lights were blue to match my case, but what can you do....

Sometimes works, sometimes not

Joel D., Newegg
18 March 2014
  • Summary: I am shopping for another USB 3.0 card reader from a different vendor. This unit only cost $25 and it's not worth going back to Newegg for a refund. One last shot before I toss this unit: I just got a new SSD drive, so I am reinstalling Windows 7. Will see if that changes anything.
  • Pros: A nice layout of card reader slots, activity lights and USB 3.0 port. But problem-plagued operations.
  • Cons: I really liked the design of this memory card reader, which enabled me to easily download files from cards and connect USB 3.0 portable hard drives to the front of my PC. Problem: this device intermittently flakes out. About 25 percent of the time it doesn't operate, as if the connection to the m...

Works as advertised

Allen A., Newegg
4 March 2014
  • Summary: In other thoughts, I read the other reviews on this product and I feel bad for those who had a problem with this device. My experience has been quite the opposite, however. It's a card reader that operates as it should.... What more can I say.
  • Pros: Great little card reader. The front USB 3.0 port gives the same read/write performance as the 3.0 ports on the back of the PC. No signal degradation. So far, I've tested USB sticks, SD and Micro SD with no problems. Transfers have never been a problem and it doesn't drop drives.
  • Cons: LEDs aren't blue. This may actually be a pro for some, but I wish it had Blue LED's.

Has major design flaw

Robert E., Newegg
7 January 2014
  • Summary: I got this product based on my purchase of a power supply by the same company eight years ago and it is still working perfectly. However, this card reader is clearly below the normal quality in all respects for this company. They must be putting their brand name on another company's product.
  • Pros: It was easy to take apart in order to see why it was a flawed design.
  • Cons: This is a fairly long review but worth the read if you are considering this product. This card reader has a major design flaw. The thickness of the soldered USB 3.0 connector plug is too thick. You could even see the imprint of the screw head in the rubber connector. It keeps the top circuit boar...

USB 3.0 port not working

Alfredo R., Newegg
8 December 2013
  • Pros: USB 3.0 speed card reader with motherboard connector. Plug and play. Micro SD slot.
  • Cons: USB 3.0 port malfunctioned it will not read USB 3.0 or 2.0 devices. The port has power I can charge my phone, but windows 7 says the port malfunctioned.

Issues with stability

Michael S., Newegg
8 October 2013
  • Summary: It works so well when it works, but I am not having such luck recently... its sad because of its superior design to other models that do not use the internal 20 pin usb 3 hub.
  • Pros: Great speed when the reader is operational, but with a slight pressure change on the inserted USB 3 drive cable then your looking at disconnects and even power issues of the entire reader itself. I originally posted a five star rating, but after only 4 months and getting issues like this I felt p...
  • Cons: Disconnecting my devices while transferring large amounts of data. Seemingly anything more than 12 GB will cause the unit to power off, disconnecting my usb device and thus ending my excitement of USB 3 speeds. Any pressure change will cause the units power light to flicker or even shut off, then...

Works good

Richard S., Newegg
3 September 2013
  • Summary: This works just fine. I like not having to mess with drivers. Still would like to know how it compares to my old reader, but oh well! Gets the job done.
  • Pros: Has USB 3.0 front port and MB interface. Seems to download my fast CF cards quicker than my old USB 2.0 card reader, but that PC is dead and I can't do a real comparison. Does not require separate driver.
  • Cons: The CF card slot is upside down (or at least from my old one it is). The SD slot seems correct though, but is no faster than the one on my laptop.

Internal Card Reader

Cori W., Newegg
16 May 2013
  • Summary: After you jump through several RMA request hoops you'll spend half of what it is worth to ship it back. This is quote from their customer service The CR935 unit is defective. There are nothing else in the unit that can be corrected beside replacing it.
  • Pros: Nice layout
  • Cons: Does not read USB 3.0 only 2.0 Their RMA is a joke. Customer service states it is dysfunctional, spend a bunch of money to send it back.
