High rate of failure compatibility issues

zen-pc, Mwave.com
29 September 2012
  • Summary: I purchased a good many of these to put in my computer builds and have had to replace quite a few that ended up failing. Also had compatibility issues with certain boards such as ASRock where it often failed or was listed as unknown USB device. You might have better luck than I have had but I now use Rosewill card readers which I never have problems with.
  • Pros: Cheap and comes with 5.25 bay adapter
  • Cons: cheap quality, high rate of failure and incompatible with certain boards - especially ASRock

  • Summary: I love this reader and had a older Vantec before which has been moved to another system. The USB cable is nice and long and should fit any case/motherboard combo. Comes with a dozen screws but you will only need 4 to 6 depending on your case. Great value!
  • Pros: Great value. Comes with the 5.25 inch drive bay adapter. Just plain works.
  • Cons: The SD card goes in upside down (common for card readers).

Good product

Action Jackson Pro, Mwave.com

  • Summary: very pleased so far. I just got it and installed it and went to work. Everything operates as expected and if that changes I will let you know. Lights and everything works... easy install...
  • Pros: works like expected... quick download of images, cards slide in with relative ease I expect some hold on them
  • Cons: Yeah, a hint look of cheap plastic, but when it is in the computer, who cares - it works

  • Summary: I bought this to fill up and empty space left by my DVD-Rom drive. The plastic doesn't seem to be the best quality but it did the job. I really don't like how the red light is on all the time, even if there's nothing in any of the slots.
  • Pros: Read/Writes a lot of different types of cards
  • Cons: the red light on the front is constantly on

Exelent product

Jeffrey, Mwave.com
3 September 2009
  • Summary: This is a fantastic product and intend to include these on new builds. It gives easy access for media cards without the mess of an external reader having to be stored and plugged in for every use. It also gives an additional USB port to the front of the case which is very useful. Software drivers included were not needed under Windows XP. The LED indicator lights do stay on the entire time the computer is on however, which can be slightly annoying for some users.
  • Pros: Easy to use and supports a wide range of media, bends well with case, and gives an additional front USB port.
  • Cons: Indicator lights are always on, even when no media ed, the only thing preventing 5 stars.

  • Summary: Had a big hole in the front of my new build. Wanted to fill it and have a simple card reader without sata. Happy with this, works fine all round. Don't know about the sound, not interested whether it had it or not.
  • Pros: 3.5" option
  • Cons: None

  • Summary: It's a nice accessory that works well. Transfer speeds are not the best, but you'll notice that only with fast cards. The extra USB port is a nice bonus.
  • Pros: Multiple card formats, extra usb port
  • Cons: Average speed
