my opinion is that it never was any good to begin with

Summary: I had my boat for 4 years now. I have replaced this unit three times. I now have a kenwood and will not go back to Sony products. Its no wonder they discontinued this head unit, my opinion is that it never was any good to begin with.
Summary: For being marine grade and costing $185, I figured it would last more than two boating seasons. I installed under the dash in my boat out of the elements and removed the face plate anytime the boat wasn't in use also the boat is stored in doors. The stereo began cutting in and out when playing.
Summary: I put this in my jeep, and it has not failed me yet. I like the fact that it has the ability to pickup very weak signals. I live in the country and often head out into the national forests with my jeep, and this receiver picks up tons of stations from miles away, and the usually come in quite clear.
All Sony In Dash Units Have A Known Defect Sony Does Not Support - Don't Buy

Summary: All sony in dash products have a lattent defect. They all, after a time, go into to "demo mode" which is a little adverstiement for the unit's features. The problem is that with time, the head goes into demo mode and will not allow you to access the menu to turn it off.
Summary: Seems like the faceplate doesn't make contact or is failing after 1 year. Installed this about 2 years ago and lasted one summer without much problem. This summer it will restart when clicking the album buttons when in USB mode, as well as failing to power the front face plate at times.
