Summary: I directly compared these in their planned mounting locations to the following speakers: Audison Voce 3" and a H-Audio Trinity 3". I found these to be the best choice because of their size (smaller, no cutting) and, while they surely didn't manage bass as well as the 3" competition it had, I wouldn't be feeding it bass anyway. I concluded that I could run these without a tweeter but adding in the tweeter gives better realism.
Pros: Contends with 3" drivers Good dash speaker / off-axis is strong Mounting cups enhance SQ noticeably
Cons: Warm, a bit less detailed than I'd prefer. Add the tweeter in and its fine.
Summary: These are absolutely a must!!! I was reluctant due to how much these little guys cost!!!,but let me tell you I couldn't imagine not having them and I have an awesome setup AlpineW910 HU,Alpine H701 w/Rux controller(processor/X-over/Eq./Ta), ,Polk Sr6500 6-3/4 in doors,Kicker Cvt 6-3/4 mid bass drivers in rear,2x Alpine Swx 10" subs in rear, run on 4 big high end Phoenix Gold amps!! they will try to tell these were made just for the Stage4 systems(bull!!
Pros: They totally rock, adds so much to front sound stage! the loudest per size speaker I ever heard! remember its not much bigger than a tweeter and is a full blown mid range driver!(just don't try to put too much low end to it!)
Cons: NON!!!!!!(ok a little pricey and can't be rebuilt if one blows!)
Summary: These speakers are unbelievable. I am able to play from 250 Hz to 20k Hz. This allows for unbelievable imaging. Due to their small size I installed them far forward in the kick panel; thus allowing minimal path length difference in these locations and with the low frequency extension I am able to get imaging characteristics similar to high quality compression drivers on waveguides / horn lenses.
